Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 05 5:33 pm)
It has been debated back and forth. A lot of techniques can be used in both programs - lighting, UV Mapping, etc., but some functions are P5 only. It's a tough call. We'll probably have another round of debate on this after things settle down a bit and we can see the types of P5 posts that come up. Thanks for the suggestion!
What interaction??? Anything not related to Poser 5 is next to impossible to find now. 99% of all the posts these days are related to P5. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing - more power to 'em, but there's simply NO WAY to find anything relating to Poser 4 in the huge rush of P5 stuff. Kept the way it is simply means P4 people are OUT! IMO
I was finding that, even before P5, the rapid turnover of messages was effectively burying anything more than two days old anyway. Perhaps it is time to split the Poser forum, not just into P4/P5 but also (Poser specific) newbies textures, modelling, WIP, system issues, general discussion etc. I appreciate that specific forums for many of these topics already exist, but when it comes to Poser users, people (myself included) seem to put everything into this forum, and there certainly seems to be enough traffic to justify seperate Poser specific forums, in comparison to the relatively low turnover of threads in the general topic forums. I agree that it will eventually slow down... And I don't mean to be a pain about it... Hust thought if it were "easier" for the users here it may have been a good idea... I just thought that if the forums were split, those P4 or P5 users looking for specifc P4 or P5 issues, there would be a specific place to look... -Lee
I agree that the messages are really piling up and that some sort of split should occur. I don't think a version split would be worth while because some of us with P5 still work in P4 right now, and likely will continue to do so due to the runtime library option of using our P4 stuff. A split IMHO should be a topic one rather than a version one. There's still folks posting about the DAZ dragon, vicky, Mike, mimic, clothing, etc, and that does get lost in the "I hate P5" stuff. So how about a P5 orientation forum for people to rant and talk about their install / learning curve experiences?
How about a P3/P4/P5 flag for the threads and, as shadowcat suggested, only showing the first (and maybe the last) posts in the thread when rummaging through the forum? That way, you would be able to distinguish P3/4/5 content and you would be able to see a larger list of the messages rather than 25/page when there is multi-hundred posts. The flaging should take less coding/admin time than seperate fora. The post lists seem like it would be an easier task as well with only first/last posts showing. Or, perhaps, another setting could be placed in the "Edit Forum Preferences" that would allow you to specify showing only P3/4/5/all posts and/or how many posts/page you would like to see?
No one is saying "Go Away for a few weeks." Right now, it's hard to determine if there will continue to be a deluge of P5-only posts after the initial excitement dies down. It seems better to take a "Wait and See" attitude right now rather than immediately jumping and creating another forum and dealing with all the questions of "How do I classify this?" (Yes, there are posts that span P4 and P5.) As Jeff pointed out, when Vicki first arrived, there was an avalanche of Vicki posts that buried "normal" P4 posts. Now Vicki posts are considered standard posts for P4. I'm hardly the poster child for patience, but I think a bit is in order right now. ;-) Cheers!

Hey guys... I have to say I am very happy with all of those members here that have obtained the Poser 5 software, but... I know that all of us don't. I've been out of town for about a week an have not been able to access the web. I come back and there are over 600 messages in the Poser forum and I'm lost amongst the P5 postings. Is there anyway that the mods here can create a separate P5 forum? (I know I can't be the only P4 user thinking this.. r can I??) Just a suggestion, and no offense meant... :) -Lee
