Subject: Cr2 Files

I was looking at a tutorial to make poseable props in 3dMax and I noticed that there are no cr2 files in poser5 -they seem to have changed to .crz files which dont seem to be editable -any ideas? Thanks

The .crz files are nothing more than .cr2 files compressed using standard Z-lib compression (new thing in Poser 5). You can load a file into Poser, disable compressed file support, and save the results to a new filename or use Winzip or Stuffit to do the trick in decompressing the file. HTH, Kuroyume

I tried unzipping the crz in winrar and all I got when unpacked was empty folders. And I'm not really sure what you mean about saving from poser. Are you saying exporting the figure or just saving a poser file. What file do I want to load in poser? Thanks for the help

Try winzip.

pa902 ( ) posted Sat, 28 September 2002 at 8:21 PM

Has anyone sucessfully extracted these files? I use winrar and I get an empty folder -Winzip will let me view the file but it won't extract them (Tried on two different computers)and zip-it says that .crz is not a valid zip file -what did kuroyume mean when he said that I can load the file in Poser? Thanks

Go to Edit > General Preferences There is a check box to the use compressed files. Un-check this box. Now load the character you want to save. Then save the character back to your library with a new name and you should have a cr2.

Copy and paste the crz you want to open. Rename it with a gz extension. Then unzip this using Winzip (or Powerzip). E.G. Judy.crz - copy and paste - Copy of Judy.crz Renamed to Judy X.gz Opened in Powerzip - shows up as Judy.cr2 Unzipped to folder named Judy X.cr2

It opens in winzip but it won't extract it

pa902 ( ) posted Sun, 29 September 2002 at 2:14 PM

I renamed the file leotard.gz and it still wouldnt work and when I check the properties of the file it has it as leotard.gz.crz and when I open it in winzip it has the file as leotard.crz still. What the heck am I doing wrong???? Thanks

pa902 ( ) posted Sun, 29 September 2002 at 2:31 PM

I changed the folder options for to show the file extensions and the file was leotard.gz.crz -so I change it to leotard.gz and windows confirms with t message that im changing the files extension -now the file appears in properties as leotard.gz. So I figure I got it but then I open it in winzip and it still (I dont know how)has it as leotard.crz and it still won't extract -have you used winzip to do this-maybe it only works in powerzip???

pa902 ( ) posted Sun, 29 September 2002 at 3:47 PM

It worked in Powerzip

pa902 ( ) posted Mon, 30 September 2002 at 2:05 PM

But will that extract ALL the files -I just need a few

JHoagland: Why not? See "Poser 5: Reference Manual" Page 60 (and I quote, my emphasis): Note Some Advanced Artists use a text editing application to directly edit Poser files. You must uncompress compressed files before editing them. To do this, you can either load a file into Poser, disable compressed file support, and save the results to a new filname or USE A THIRD-PARTY COMPRESSION UTILITY SUCH AS WINZIP OR STUFFIT to uncompress the file. If you use the second method, you can recompress the file when you've finished making edits. Kuroyume

For the way of turning off compressed file support -which way are you supposed to save the file to uncompress the crz file -it's not just save as I dont think and its not exporting the figure. If you just save as it creates a poser file but does it make a new cr2?

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Mon, 30 September 2002 at 10:02 PM

Turn off compressed file support and then save the character to the Character library. One would hope that it would save to the appropriate Runtime folder as .cr2 and not .crZ. Kuroyume
