You can simulate this with material settings applied to a cone. This would also render faster than true volumetric materials. This thread has a sample of one of several light cones I have done. I actually have a couple of more which are better.Sorry to be a spoil sport but if P5 tries to include everything it'll end up like it is now, a jack knife that doesn't do one thing very well. I wanted weather FX etc. but then realized that by including all this extra stuff CL can't concentrate on fixing the large bugs nor making everything else work efficiently. I also wanted them to put Morph manager out of business by providing drag and drop for MTs in the hierarchy editor. This hasn't happened and I think Poser suffers from not having effective editing tools. Sorry nothing against Waldo or his idea. I think its cool but I think CL needs to fix a few things first.
besides they would have to add a whole new lighting system to get volumetric light and probably a new render engine.. ...........................not likey :-/
The Tempest render-engine technology CL has added to Poser 5 is capable of handling volumetrics, particles, etc., at least in its current build.
These features might not be implemented in Poser now, but perhaps they can eventually be added without having to scrap the entire thing and start over.
Little_Dragon I think it is just the shader tree technology (ShaderMaker) that Pixels Inc. supplied (hence the presence of volumetric shader nodes). Steve Cooper stated (fairly recently) that Firefly was developed entirely in-house. If third party technology was brought in it must have been very late in the day. Bill
"Steve Cooper stated (fairly recently) that Firefly was developed entirely in-house. " And we all know Mr. Staypuff wouldn't lie to us...
"I am a good person now and it feels... well, pretty much the same as I felt before (except that the headaches have gone away now that I'm not wearing control top pantyhose on my head anymore)"
Sorry LD, Maybe I was wrong as I just noticed that the P5 intro screen does state that some of Pixels Digital Inc. rendering technology was used in Firefly. * If third party technology was brought in it must have been very late in the day * I did say that though ;) All you really need for volumetrics is the material description (which is present in the shader tree) and a renderer that can represent it. In the light of the above, this makes it even stranger that Firefly cannot do the job. Bill

I hope they will include volumetric (light cone with 3d shadow) in patch for the spotlight. Poser is supposed to have it. Every theatre have spotlight with some volumetric because that is how the real spotlight is supposed to look like. Please please please include it in patch. Waldoo
