Lourdes has invited me to create a texture set for a new package he is working on for Mike and Vicky.

I am currently planning a total of 6 complete outfit textures for each: 2 Sci-Fi, 2 Fantasy, and 2 High Elves.

I am posting some snaps of the 1st 2 Sci Fi sets for Mike. Please keep in mind they are still WIP (tho they are very close!)

Comments? Feedback?

Lourdes is also planning a helmet for this set, but I haven't seen it yet

This is the 2nd Sci-Fi texture set. Not sure how I feel about this one. It may or may not change radically.

Looks great! The first texture is great as-is; I would leave it alone... ;) I think the 2nd one looks great except for the white areas - maybe make that part some kind of brushed metal? I will definitely want this package when it's released! Keep us posted!

guarie ( ) posted Tue, 01 October 2002 at 11:47 PM

Good stuff Gorodin! I'd buy this package!

I was not entirely happy with 2nd suit, so I started playing. The chest plate is a place holder, but I like the direction the chaps and harness is taking...

MadYuri ( ) posted Wed, 02 October 2002 at 3:09 AM

Yep, thats a winner. :)

soulhuntre ( ) posted Wed, 02 October 2002 at 3:15 AM

I really liked set #2 as you first posted it - the chaps don't do much for me :)

I had originally planned to do one package with 6 textures for mike and vicky each, including 2 SF, 2 fantasy, and 2 Fae. Now I'm thinking I might need to break it up, since I now already have 4 SF textures I like. Maybe 2 or 3 mix and match packages? each with a different theme?

The 4th idea is above.

guarie ( ) posted Wed, 02 October 2002 at 8:16 AM

Mmmm - I like this one the most I think. More subtle.

soulhuntre ( ) posted Wed, 02 October 2002 at 8:44 AM

4 is REALLY good. I don't know, I think you might want to do the slightly larger pack for a few dollars more.

MaterialForge ( ) posted Wed, 02 October 2002 at 8:49 AM

Yeah, cool! I agree with soulhunter - I'd pay a few more bucks for a larger package. You could also offer a few product options - several smaller paks, and a "mega-pak" containing all the smaller ones with possibly a few more. Just some ideas.

Gorodin ( ) posted Wed, 02 October 2002 at 8:51 AM

LOL! With 6 textures, diffuse maps and bump maps, per outfit and material poses for each per clothing item... and thumbnails for everything... I hope to finish this when Lourdes is ready to ship!

queri ( ) posted Wed, 02 October 2002 at 1:31 PM

I love the idea of the large pack-- depends on the download though-- 22M starts getting very iffy and then I have to add another $14 for a CD burn, ouch. That black set just hums, so does the first white one. Nobody's done coppertones yet in Sci-fi. Both in the reddish and the verdigris. Lourdes came close in Outlander with his wonderfully alien metal corrosions. I'm reading Red Mars right now, and copper would just pop in a render. Emily

Gorodin ( ) posted Wed, 02 October 2002 at 1:53 PM

I've learned a few things about keeping the file sizes down since I started here. For example, SF Uniforms for Mike weighs in at over 10 megs. Rogue is only 3.3megs and SF Adventurers comes in under 3megs. I should have no trouble keeping a six-pack for this set under 22megs, but if I go for 18?... dunno.

Meanwhile Queri, I'll do a copper version of the 4th set, just for you. :-)

Daio ( ) posted Wed, 02 October 2002 at 2:55 PM

Tres cool! I never seem to have enough good SF stuff for Mike. :-)

rjlwetzel ( ) posted Wed, 02 October 2002 at 3:56 PM

I like the Dark Blue Chaps and Breastplate. The White looks too bulky and reminds me of a snow suit. Definitely, Please break up the set for Mike and Vic.

soulhuntre ( ) posted Wed, 02 October 2002 at 5:41 PM

I agree, break it along gender lines.

Gorodin ( ) posted Wed, 02 October 2002 at 5:48 PM

I think Lourdes is planning bundling the 2 together. If he does that, so will I. If he separates them, I will do that. It was breaking alon genre lines I was wondering about...

Camoflage; urban, jungle, desert, and a base scheme that has few to no metals would work for me, I'm hip deep in outfits for Mike that are all leather and steel and I am looking for somthing a little more Cyberpunk and a lot less Star Wars.....if you know what I mean.

jaybutton ( ) posted Wed, 02 October 2002 at 9:04 PM

These are great! Like soulhuntre, I'm not too crazy about the chaps, but I'd like to see what the helmet looks like. :) Jay

...Here's your copper...

MaterialForge ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 9:59 AM

Copper looks great! I like the jungle idea Sydney suggested too - I have a story where human troops are at war with an alien race, and there is a jungle compound involved - so the troops would need jungle-like camo. That would totally rock.

rjlwetzel ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 10:09 AM

I like the Copper. I also agree with SydneyKeys about Camo, etc. Shine On.

This looks awesome and Lourdes is a female for the record.

Gorodin ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 5:10 PM

Really? 8^P

I had no idea... And of course, because I am a male, I automatically assume the male pronoun (my wife'll kick my ass for that...) Maybe I should just refer to Lourdes as "Ser"...

BTW, a camo version of the pic in post 7 is in the works. I might do the one in posts 3-4 in camo instead tho... dunno.

Lyrra ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:18 PM

oooh - looks great so far guys :) I'd suggest breaking them up into themes - that way sci-fi buffs don't get stuck with fantasy stuff they won't use and vice versa.

Jungle campaigns?

The highlight and bump setting still need to be tweaked, but here's the camo texture.

The camo is off to a good start....but the pattern is very retro. That's wat is referred to as an "oil drop" pattern that was used in the 1950's. Modern camo is a little more complicated and often created by computer.I'm attaching a little low rez swatch of a home built urban camo. I was hoping to get somthing a little more complex if you can manage. Or somthing like what you have with sharper/tighter lines.....yes I know I'm fussy, but you asked. Will Lourdes be making any weapons to complament this gear? My Vicki Outlander are still unarmed....but no worries, she'll manage.

Gorodin ( ) posted Fri, 04 October 2002 at 3:35 AM

Interesting about the camo. I might need to do a little research!

Here is sample of a texture I did made to look like the digital MARPAT pattern the Marines use. This is the urban color scheme

Ohh....very nice, I suspect you are on your way :O)

rjlwetzel ( ) posted Thu, 10 October 2002 at 10:50 AM

I like the camo, but I've shown the sample pix to friends and we all agree the boots look kind of orthopedic. I think they look like the kind of magnetic boots they where in space to keep themselves stuck to the hull of the ship.

spratman ( ) posted Thu, 10 October 2002 at 11:12 AM

Very cool, you guys have been sneaking looks at my sketch book again haven't you. LOL! Dang! I gotta get busy. I like the Newer style camo much better than the "retro". Altho' I'd hafta agree with the boot comment. Looks a little clunky to me. I unnerstand that's the current fashion, but I don't like it. I'd stick to the classic combat style and tweek it. very cool stuff IMHO Jon

spratman ( ) posted Thu, 10 October 2002 at 11:13 AM

ps. needs a cool helmet to go with it

Sprat,

You definitely need to check the later thread in this forum. Lourdes finished the helmets...
