My rooms are toast...I can't believe it... USELESS.... I've tried moving them..they seem only to work at 1280x1078, which is way too small...I have a 19inch monitor I tried moving the stuff around, saving preferences...suppose I could use a ui dot...but everthing is too big...it will not FIT ON THE SCREEN !!!!!

If the updater insists on changing everything so it is only visible at 1280x1078, what are those of those of us who can't see at that size supposed to do? Not everyone has a giant monitor. Is there any point in me wasting time downloading the updater if it makes Poser 5 more unusable?

Kagato98 ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 6:15 PM

Dialyn: The patch does not make Poser 5 more unstable. Atleast not that we know of yet - it looks like the programers were in such a hurry to get the patch to us wanting people, that they somehow saved one of the programers preferences with it. It seems like that is the reason for it only being able to be used in 1280x1078 - I'm just taking a stab in the dark though. Please, the last thing we need is another bashing. Kupa will probally see this error, fix it, and repost the patch in no time. With everyone complaining and moaning about all the bugs in Poser, it's no doubt the patch came with an error of it's own. You don't rush things like this :) .

I'm real POd right now...I've sent 3 screen shots to CL...but the rooms are useless...you have to keep moving the stuff...It appears it is possible to change the sizes in the pref files, but I'm not about to edit all those settings....

now...can someone explain to me how to make all this fit back like it was prior to SR-1????? It looks to me its time to uninstall P5 and reinstall without the patch...maybe it is possible to undo the patch... Or perhaps the patch installed incorrectly..I used the individual components,, not the full file...

Kagato98 Tell you what...there is no excuse for this crap...if the programmer did what you said, and that's what I think happened as well...in haste...that's just plain BS...and quite frankly they need additional bashing.... Even with my screen locks, rendering problems, multiple dead boxes, I could at leat use the program..this is just plain bs.... I'm going to try to uninstall or at least go back prior to SR-1...then retry with the full patch...who knows it may be different.....

Davo-So: If I were you, I would wait before reinstalling. I've ran into problems like this with other programs, and it's usually easy to fix. If you can't wait though, uninstall and reinstall. It would really make you PO'd if you found out later that you could have saved that re-installation with one click of the mouse to fix that bug ;)

Dave-So ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 6:25 PM

Kagato98 We probably passed in the mail.... Don't take my last post of screaming too personal... I'm just really POd...so sorry I blasted off....I would bite my mother's head off right now

Programmers are people too. And people make mistakes. They make even more mistakes when under pressure - for me, that's enough said. Sorry your Poser isn't useable - I'll go try out the patch myself and see if I have better results.

Kagato98 ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 6:28 PM

Davo-so: No problem :) . It's understandable.

Dave-So ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 6:29 PM

Like my other message said...I used the individual patches...app and figures...wonder if the full could be different.... There is no way to uninstall the patch....hopefully someone will come up with a brilliant idea...other than reinstall P5.... I think I'll try installing the full patch over this..can't really hurt anything at this point.

well...it will not install over the already patched product... Guess I'll go have dinner and watch Survivor... Maybe I'll wait for SR-2

When I try to run Poser 5 SR1 I get the blue screen of death.

Kagato98 ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 6:33 PM

Hmm...Well, it looks like I won't know for sure for a few more hours. I just installed the 'Software only' package, and it says it needs to reboot. I loaded it up anyways though....I live life on the edge :) . Anyways, it looks like the patch is working fine, although I messed with it for only a few minutes. The face room, which previously I was unable to use, works. Mouse wheel in the libraries work. Everything works great for me.....That is...Until I reboot. Muhahaha. It might be worth while for someone to find out where these desktop settings are stored, how to edit them, and if backing them up before installing the patch would be worthwhile - so that one might copy them back over after the patch. Good luck ;)

Kagato98 ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 6:35 PM

What's that?!?! Can't install the full patch over a previously patched Poser!?! Noooooo! And I'm 41 % complete on the full one :( . Curse my intelligence.

Lawndart ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 6:37 PM

We are fixing it right now. The updated preferance files didn't get into the updater. We will post them on the website ASAP. This way you won't have to DL the whole patch again. Your updated copy of Poser 5 is not hosed. You will be fine when you use the new files. We will also update the patcher. *** Please post here on who won Survivor. I haven't had any time to watch TV *** ;)

Kagato98 ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 6:39 PM

Hey LawnDart: Since I've already applied the Application only patch, does this mean that the full patch is useless to me? Heh...Just incase, I'm going to go ahead and start on the figures only patch....On a positive sidenote, since this post has started, my downloads have jumped from 1.5k a second to 23k a second! Whooo for poser bugs that can easily be fixed!

CDI ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 6:40 PM

True to their word the updater is offline till its fixed. Went back to the office to use the DSL for the download and its not there. I dont mind. Take all the time you need CL. AWESOME P5 by the way and Im only reading the manual. LOL

sirkrite ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 6:42 PM

I don't know! With the Patch I can't get Poser 5 to run at all. I also get the Blue Screen of Death. :(

Kagato98 ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 6:42 PM

Hmm...It appears it's not gone....They've just removed the link. Or maybe my download is about to stop? Maybe they were nice enough to leave the actual file up so that I can download it and patch using the second patch later! Whoo!

the3dwizard ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 6:44 PM

sirkrite, you running Windows ME?

sirkrite ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 6:45 PM

Yes!

wdupre ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 6:46 PM

Just went to download it and the message said "It's coming right back." so I guess someone read this thread and is fixing the problem maybee?

Lawndart ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 6:48 PM

Kagato: That's correct... If you have used the app only patch then you need to use the figures only patch.

Lawndart ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 6:49 PM

Kagato: To get the updated figures anyway... :)

Lapis ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 6:51 PM

Joe, do you have an eta for the new patch?

the3dwizard ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 6:55 PM

So is Windows ME not supported?

joffry ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 6:57 PM

Ok, just checked my res. originally I was set at 1280X960 and poser looked fine and dandy. just increased to 1280x1024 and still looking fine.

sirkrite ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:04 PM

At least I was able to undo the "Patch" with the System Restore in Windows ME. Nothing like being able to set back the clock. ;)

mfuhsi ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:04 PM

I'm in pretty much the same boat as Sirkrite, I can't get P5 to run at all. I get either stack overrun or a fatal expection. I'm only running the app only patch. I'll probably have to reinstall P5, thank goodness I put no files in it and saved them all in P4. I'm a little pissed off right now,I would appreciate any advise anyone could give me before I have to get drastic.

MadYuri ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:05 PM

I have uncompressed my library files (crz->cr2,...). The patch doesn't recognise the uncompressed files and doesn't update the defect figures. Oh joy. :[ I think I will uninstall Poser 5 and wait for service pack 3.

the3dwizard ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:07 PM

Dang, I should have set a restore point :(

sirkrite ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:07 PM

No mfuhsi! You can use the System Restore to reset your system back to the last time you installed something before this.

sirkrite ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:09 PM

The3Dwizard, look back it sets them everytime you install something.

Kagato98 ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:10 PM

Curses....I'm at 87% of the full patch...at this point, I'm seriously considering just reinstalling and using the full patch, instead of going through all that trouble again.

wayneout ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:16 PM

Hello, I have Windows ME and I did not get the blue screen. I used the full patch. The Pose room is okay, but when I go into the other rooms, everything is huge and a lot of the dials are off the bottom of the screen. It is true, you can pick any restore point. I installed something last week which messed up my computer. I picked a date from the month before and everything was back to normal. So far, it seems to work with Windows Me (except for the size thing) Bill

whbos ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:19 PM

I just got knocked off the site while downloading. For the ones who don't have DSL or faster dialups, can't we get this patch on CD? The file size is just too large for a typical download. The problem mentioned above is a problem I've had with the original Poser 5 before the update. I'm surprised no one else has mentioned it before. I have to adjust my screen settings to 1024x768 pixels which is the maximum for this video card.

Poser 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Pro 2014, 11, 11 Pro

Kagato98 ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:22 PM

whbos: This was Kupa's first post. "If you can't download the updater, please send service@curiouslabs.com an email request, and we will forward a copy of the updater to you."

BonzaiGopher ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:23 PM

I was 80% finished with d/l the full patch and it looks like the server died (or CL just removed the file)... that figures (no pun intended).. Interesting that people are running into the blue screen of death after the patch; I'm hoping it will make that particular problem go away for me. I haven't been able to even start up P5 since I got it! (Thinkhappythoughtsthinkhappythoughts...)

PabloS ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:26 PM

from another thread, a patch update is on the way which should fix UI stuff. Not sure if it's related to the BSOD though.

Arendar ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:31 PM

O.M.G!

EricofSD ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:39 PM

Kinda makes me wonder if this was a special patch just for Legume and Dave So. (ducks and runs - snickers behind the door)

the3dwizard ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:45 PM

Yes, I did go to a previous restore point. Just have to re-install some other stuff :( Should have created an install point just before the patch install.

redon634 ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:46 PM

Just wanted to let everyone know (you don't all need to panic if you've already installed the patch) - it does run on my machine fine with the patch (so far), I was already at the 'right' resolution, so that's why - Also, I only had minor problems before the patch. The firefly renderer seems a lot faster.. I'll definitely download the patch to the patch though!

Lawndart ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:48 PM

Sirkrite: Can you tell me what version of tpkd.sys is in your system? You should be able to find it in your windows directory if you do a search. Thanks, Joe

Lawndart ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:53 PM

We will put the pref files up on the website so that all the people that have DL'd the patch and installed it already will be able to plunk these files into the appropriate folder.' You can't re-patch an already patched version of the app. We will also update the current patch so that the correct pref files are there.

Kagato98 ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:55 PM

LawnDart: Will this be in a little while, or will there be a few days wait? Either way, I don't have much of a problem with that - I know everyone over there is working very hard on this patch, and I appreciate all of your hard work :) .

redon634 ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 7:58 PM

Thanks CL - I keep hoping you all will get a break - hope this takes care of everything for you ..

Lawndart ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 8:09 PM

Thanks Kagato and the rest of you... We are doing everything we can to get the patch working properly. It hurts to see these problems happen. Especially when we pound on all the systems that we have inhouse to make sure it is stable. We are working very very hard to make this happen for all of you. The prefs fix will be up before nights end. I'm hoping sooner than later. I need to get back at it so we can deliver it. I will not be on the forum for a while but we do hear you. All the best, Joe

sirkrite ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 8:12 PM

Joe, I couldn't find a tpkd.sys file in the windows directory. What I did find is a Tpkd.vxd file in the windows/system directory. It's version 4.300.7.840.
