Subject: P5 crashing on AthlonXP 2100?

I've just got a new computer, and while it's fast as all get-out (the cloth simulation is nearly real-time -- woot!) I'm now having a mysterious Poser5 problem that didn't occur on my old PentiumII system. What'll happen is one of two things; either during a dynamics simulation (cloth or hair) the scene is suddenly thrown out of the cloth or hair "room" back into the main posing room and the application immediately locks up: Or, during any memory-intensive operation (dynamics, Firefly rendering, etc) the system occasionally just winks out completely.... screen goes black, and the next thing I know the computer is rebooting. Neither of these problems happens a lot, but they're very frustrating. Is anyone else with a similar system having problems like these? The specs of the new system: AMD AthlonXP 2100+ Windows 2000 Pro SOYO Dragon Ultra motherboard with VIA KT333 1GB PC2700 DDR memory Poser's on a dedicated 100 GB Western Digital HD 7200RPM with 8MB cache, no other applications open or running in background Nvidia GeForce4 4200Ti video card Thanks!

That's pretty sweet about the cloth simulation. :) I wish it ran that fast on my machine! I've heard on here about some problems with Poser 5 causing processors to run hotter than usual (especially with the libraries open, it apparently runs the CPU at 100%). You might want to make sure that your processor isn't getting too hot... I saw a thread about that previously, but I don't remember the details about how to check your processor temperature. (I'm still jealous of your system -- hey maybe it's the power of my mind that's making it crash for you. ;-) ) Auralia

Fauve, Please download and install Service Release 1 for Poser 5, which addresses those issues.

I have head that overclocked memory is unreliable,to use PC2100's instead.PC2700's are nonECC unregistered chips.

It turns out there may have been several sources for the problems. Part of the issue was not having SR1 on my Poser 5 install (that was causing the "jumping rooms" problem and the dreaded Forearm Issue), but it looks like the instability and system crashes may have been the result of an incorrect bios setting. The friend who built this system for me had the motherboard performance on a turbo setting, which Soyo doesn't recommend. I reset the bios options to their fail-safe defaults and the crashing issue seems to have been resolved. Much thanks to everyone for the help and suggestions! And for the record, I've bought every release of Poser since P1, and I LOVE Poser 5. :)
