Subject: Curious Labs to Release SR-2 Patch

whbos ( ) posted Fri, 11 October 2002 at 1:58 PM · edited Mon, 04 November 2024 at 3:03 PM

Sometime next week CL will be releasing a second patch. Also, they've made changes to the download process so they can be resumed if there are problems. This is especially helpful to others like me who have slow dial-up access. I would love to know if they're going to fix the parameter dials box so it can hide behind the libraries and not be in front of it. Does anyone know if CL has a suggestion box email address for Poser where we can suggest enhancements/improvements?

I hope they fix the hair collision detection, that's what i'd like to see the most.

And maybe fix the 0.6 transparency falloff bug? H:)

Do you have to install SR-1, then SR-2 or can you just install SR-2 alone?

The parameter dials box can be a bit of a pain, but I really like the fact that the names of the dials aren't covered up by the numeric values any more (particularly on characters like Vicky and Michael, where there seem to be about a hundred dials, many with strange names). I really like being able to read them. And, after you get used to it, doing a CTRL-SHIFT-N to turn the box on and off soon becomes second nature (kind of like doing a TAB to turn the pallettes on and off in Photoshop). Igrant - I sent them a bug about the parameter box where, if you have clicked on the box, some of the hot key calls don' work. For example, if you turn a dial or enter a value in the box and it has the focus you can't hit ctrl/ to get the dolly cam and have to click back on the P5 surface for that hot key to work. Yes I like the box better. Its far more readable.

From what I understand from an email (regarding ordering the first patch on CD), you need both Service Release patches. I ordered the first patch on CD over a week ago, but never heard from them until today. Now they say you can get both on CD for those who have slow Internet connections and can't download it from their site. I'm assuming getting both on CD means you need both.

You will not need both patches. If you have installed SR1 already you won't have to redownload the 37+ megs of content changes. SR2 should be in 2 parts so those of you with SR1 already will only have to download a ~12 meg updater. The SR1 content updater will be relabeled SR2, but it has no changes from SR1. (You'll be reminded of this at download time)

We'll see being SR28 soon at this rate. So long as things get fixed. Still waiting.

Hey, SR-1 made P5 a lot better, so here's hoping SR-2 will finish the job! Attention all cynics - it's been crap week at work, so I need to find hope somewhere. Please let me enjoy my minute of optimism! ;-) Thanks for the update on the update.

Attached Link: "Pigments of the Imagination"

"Sometime next week CL will be releasing a second patch."

Where did this information come from?

I visited the CL site and saw no mention of this, and I have not seen any notices or emails regarding patch 2 other than this one comment.

What did I miss?

Is there a list of fixes addressed in patch 2 like the list they (Coop, I think) posted prior to the post of patch 1?

Looking forward to it.

It came in an email to thoses that wanted the CD version of SR1. The fact that krazik didn't refute it seems to confirm the new patch.

whbos ( ) posted Fri, 11 October 2002 at 10:32 PM

If you don't need the SR1 patch, then why are they sending it on the CD with the SR2 patch? I don't have the SR1 patch installed so it appears I would need it. Those who have it installed already, I would assume they don't need the SR1 patch again unless doing a reinstall. I'm just going by what the email said and it quoted "Thank you for requesting a free CD of the SR-1 patch for your recently purchased Curious Labs Poser 5....We will be releasing an additional SR-2 patch at the beginning of next week, and will be including this on the CD that we will be supplying to you. Due to the inclusion of the additional patch, there will be a delay in the shipping of these patches on CD."

The CD will not contain both patches. It will only contain SR2. The e-mail reads ok to me. I read "You requested SR-1, but we are sending you SR-2 instead."

EricofSD ( ) posted Fri, 11 October 2002 at 11:55 PM

Well, I think sr2 is to be expected. Too much confusion over sr1 or sr1b or individual dl's etc and too many things that need to be fixed on the first patch. So, we have the program, the patch to fix it, the patch to fix the patch and now, the patch to replace the patch that didn't fix the patch that didn't fix the program. Kewl. I get it.

krazik ( ) posted Sat, 12 October 2002 at 12:10 AM

We will not have "compounding" patches. The newest patch will always update all previous.

Lapis ( ) posted Sat, 12 October 2002 at 1:50 AM

That's the way..uh hu uh hu I like it uh hu uh hu!

whbos ( ) posted Sat, 12 October 2002 at 8:10 AM

That's preferable if the SR2 patch will include everything in SR1, like what was done in the past with Poser 4 Pro Pack. However, the email does not read that way to me when it says "Due to the inclusion of the additional patch..." I'll try installing SR2 without SR1 and see if it asks for SR1. It would seem that if SR2 is smaller than SR1, then SR2 is missing something. Or would I need to obtain the character updates separately?

Philywebrider ( ) posted Sat, 12 October 2002 at 8:13 AM

Thanks Krazik, not having compounding patches is a good idea, I'm confused enough as it is. I do not have the SR-1 patch because of the DL problem. Does Sr-2 require a P5 uninstall/install before installing the SR-2 patch. Just another ouestion, If I order the SR2 patch on CD(because of a super slow modem), do I pay for shipping And handling? When SR-2 is installed, and if there is a SR-3, Do you install over the previous patch, or is there a patch uninstall, or do we have to uninstall/reinstall P5 then the Patch?

krazik ( ) posted Sat, 12 October 2002 at 11:26 AM

Whbos: As explained above the "content updater" from SR1 will be renamed SR2 without any changes. If you have installed it already you don't need to again. Just the SR2 application updater. Philly: No you will not have to uninstall to install and update.
