oooohharrge! V3? Dag, I hope so.

Lapis ( ) posted Fri, 11 October 2002 at 9:29 PM

I'd be surprised if it was! There concerned over new wording in the current copyright contract which is part of P5. They informed me that they won't be making anything for P5 until the wording is changed. It is supposedly worded in a way that can be interpreted to mean that CL can claim ownership of anything tha tis developed for P5. Something to that degree. SO again I'd be very suprised. But what a pleasent suprise that would be!

Tashar59 ( ) posted Fri, 11 October 2002 at 10:07 PM

Vic3 would be my guess, but what extras can there be over Vic2. Next week is not that far off. How can anyone save money when Daz keeps comeing up with this great stuff. Tashar 59

Jcleaver ( ) posted Fri, 11 October 2002 at 10:17 PM

Well, Vic 3 doesn't necessarily have to be for Poser 5. Vic 2 isn't, nor is Mike. Or maybe they are farther along with their program than people have let on. Who knows? So far, I have enjoyed all of their surprises. I'm sure this will be no different.

ElectricAardvark ( ) posted Fri, 11 October 2002 at 10:30 PM

There is a preview of Victoria3 on the Renderosity Magazine CD for Issue 3. Looks pretty good, but she's kind of homely IMO

EricofSD ( ) posted Fri, 11 October 2002 at 10:52 PM

Well, Judy can look young, old, hansome, homely, and downright mouth watering depending on what settings you use. V3 hopefully will have that capability. My concern is that its pretty soon for V3 considering that P5 isn't even stable yet. Granted DAZ is doing their own program thing, and granted they had access to P5 beta, I still wonder. Then again, RDNA did a fine job with Judy in the limited time available.

Dave-So ( ) posted Fri, 11 October 2002 at 11:10 PM

hey ERic...please post the settings to make Judy mouth watering :)

brycetech ( ) posted Sat, 12 October 2002 at 1:26 AM

how come all these chicks are bald at the top? or have a very high forehead? every pict Ive seen is this way. and as long as it does not say "made for p5", it can be anything :) maybe they're gonna release that new program? (lol..not) maybe it'll be a posable toothpick! yeah that's it! :) BT

EricofSD ( ) posted Sat, 12 October 2002 at 2:08 AM

rightly so, BT, i've noticed that too. There is a skull cap available in P5 to fill in and the hair room / face room do allow for changes to the forehead and hair line. Needs some coordination between the two. While I'd love to post something on that this weekend, its unfortunately a work weekend with freetime divided between bryce contest, EIU and poser. I'm sure someone can putz with low forehead, hair parameters, and the like to fix this obvious issue.

Orio ( ) posted Sat, 12 October 2002 at 6:07 AM

A model doesn't HAVE to be beautiful. Personally, I think I have planety of beauty with Victoria 2 and I don't need other. I welcome some human variety coming from Judy. I can not, and do not want to, populate my 3D worlds with pinups only. All worlds need variety!

Of course I meant to type "plenty".

Marque, in case you haven't seen yet, their email newsletter said something big is happening next week :) Is it beginning of next week or towards the end? Now I know it's coming and it's made me impatient lol Better not to have known. :D

Attached Link: DAZ link

Here is a quote from the DAZ newsletter, it does not say much... "STORE NEW RELEASES: BIG NEWS FROM DAZ NEXT WEEK! Get ready for it!!" However it does have a link and it takes you to the new figures page. IF it is for Vicky3 I hope she can wear Vicky2's clothes cause I ain't buy'n her NO MORE CLOTHES!

hauksdottir ( ) posted Sat, 12 October 2002 at 10:39 AM

There are basically two things it could be... and NEITHER of them is Vicky3. They have said so repeatedly. If I was a betting woman, which I'm not... when you're battling real life you don't need artificial excitement..., but if I was, I'd bet AGAINST it being any sort of figure, even though DAZ is a company whose main business thrust is making figures. 1) Major suspicion falls on this shadowy entity known as the "Platinum Club". Somebody tripped over it last month on the DAZ website, which I believe genuinely surprised Steve Kondris. Some of the words he used to describe it, vague as they were, are being used again. IIRC, there was to be a roll-out, with promos and enticements (as though the weekly updates are not hard enough on the wallet). The announcement of the Platinum Club may include a special commemorative mesh for members only, but that would be an adjunct to the main message. A "club", however, can also foster some kind of community, depending upon how its handled. If it is just a marketing ploy, it won't attract the same loyalty as does a fan club. Considering the volatility of this community, its size, and its market power, loyalty might be a goal high on their lists. 2) Minor suspicion, maybe 15% chance, that they are going to announce something to do with the Poser Arcana website that they acquired a few weeks back, and have been real quiet about since. Steve Kondris is apparently no longer handling the brokers for DAZ; Reba took over that job. I noticed the change on the weekly announcements of new goodies, where they note who to contact for brokering, links, what-have-you, but they didn't say what he would be doing. Steve has signed his messages here with his name and NO title whether the account was DAZ3D or skondris, which gave no information, either. Rbtwhiz has a title, I think a couple of other folks at DAZ who have posted do as well. I noticed a couple of days ago that Steve signed a message with the title Public Relations. I believe that this was the first time he has used the title. Now DAZ really hasn't had that much contact with the public in the past... a few conventions and trade shows and sporadic forum presence, but taken out of an already busy work schedule, not as someone's primary responsibility. Technical Support and Customer Support are different animals from Public Relations. If their announcement concerns the Arcana site, I suspect that they are going to be opening their Forum or Forums (depending upon how they have the Arcana site organized), and that they will soon have a 24 hour presence with chatty moderators, rumor swatters, and at least 1 person who knows something. They will probably have a grand opening party or festive chat area... you know, something to get excited about. Whether it is the Platinum Club or the Forum atmosphere they have been hoping to create for such a long time, it would be "big news". NOTE: some of you know that I have been living with a chronic continuous migraine for almost 2 years now. I only have half a brain, even when the pain is shoved back. It is "sticky", meaning that I notice things, but I might not assemble the pieces correctly. DAZ's announcement might be something other than the 2 choices I've sketched above, but I'd still bet against it being Vicky3. Carolly

bigdog1 ( ) posted Sat, 12 October 2002 at 12:40 PM

Well since they had garden tools as the freebie a few weeks ago I'm holding out for the big news to be the release of the Millenium Garden with the Millenium Gopher :-P

Lapis ( ) posted Sat, 12 October 2002 at 5:41 PM

Hauksdottir I think you nailed it girl!! I don't think they're far enough along on their software yet and its not VIcky 3 for P5(very outside chance of another character but I seriously doubt it). To establish a club makes total sense. Then when they release their own software they will have their own base of potential customers. For only having "half a brain" your pretty damn smart!!

hankim ( ) posted Sat, 12 October 2002 at 6:50 PM

I don't believe Vicky 3 is going to be specifically Poser-5-ified, in any case...from previous posts, Daz declined the opportunity because they felt that the price requested was too high.

AprilYSH ( ) posted Sat, 12 October 2002 at 8:30 PM

hmm, i'd like to see platinum club too now this reminded me of it, but if it's not a new figure how come the newsletter links the daz big news line to new releases page? from previews dropped here and there it seemed like Vicki3 is far enough along to be feasible next week, that's why she was my guess :)

Thank you, Lapis, but please don't call me "girl". I'm 51, and the fight for equality is far from over. I'm pretty sure that they've got a special membership plan almost ready to roll out. The name "Platinum Club" doesn't particularly thrill me. It is too mercantile, too reminiscent of charge cards... and if I have a platinum VISA, they can't be that hard to get (I'm an artist, not a stockbroker). This group should sound exclusive. Diamonds have been made to sound high-class... but that is all marketing by DeBeers. I'd almost prefer "Diamond Club" because it allows for at least two lines of puns: DAZzled by Diamonds! and, of course, bridge suits. (Be very glad that I didn't go into marketing, although I'm not sure how much longer I can avoid temptation.) There are other precious materials, but words of 17 syllables don't trip off the tongue, or typewriter keys, so readily. Maybe the problem is in the word "club", yet so many of the replacement words have dubious baggage. Some folks would look sideways upon being asked to join a cartel, syndicate, clan, or ring... no matter how preciousssss. Carolly

AprilYSH ( ) posted Sat, 12 October 2002 at 11:44 PM

lol :) (btw, what does "bridge suits" have to do with diamonds?)

Platinum Club is the name of a topless bar in Dallas!

hauksdottir ( ) posted Sun, 13 October 2002 at 5:49 AM

April, Typical playing cards have little symbols to differentiate the 4 suits. The suits in Bridge are clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades in that order for bidding. If you and your partner do not have a strong fit in one particular suit, you may bid "no trump", but never if either of you has a void or singleton in any suit. These 4 symbols were pretty firmly fixed in France, England and the US within the last 200 years. Other countries still use different suit signs. Sometimes they have 5 suits instead of 4. Sometimes they have 4 court cards in each suit, not just 3. Russian decks have 3 jokers, some other countrys' have none. There is still lots of variety, and some of the art on the cards is very beautiful. My point was, though, that with diamonds and clubs as a reference base, Bridge alone could provide plenty of punning opportunities for years. Carolly

AprilYSH ( ) posted Sun, 13 October 2002 at 5:59 AM

ahh thanks... hahaha, that "DAZzled by Diamonds" was pretty good, but bridge was a reach afterall from my pov - never having played bridge, had no connection at all sheepish grin
