Subject: Bryce Format

Does anyone know how to change a file from the Bryce native format to a .obj or similar?

Hawkfyr ( ) posted Sun, 13 October 2002 at 3:37 PM

It can't be done with native objects(Primitives). nor booleand groups. Only lattice, terrains, and previously imported objects can be exported to .obj. again..no booleans It would be nice though. Tom

No booleans? I've saved all the objects I've created as .obj files with the export option. Josselin :-)

a boolean in Bryce does not modify mesh/geometry. A negative boolean only tell Bryce's renerer "Don't Render This". If it does export,..the negative will be visable. Perhaps this was changed in Bryce 5 but I would doubt it.It's just the way Bryce handles it's booleans as far as I know. But..I've been wrong before. 8 ) Tom

I suppose It's because of Bryce 5, I didn't try it with Bryce 2. I just created models with booleans (positive & negatives), added them to my objects library and then exported them as objects. It also worked with objects created with metaballs. Josselin ;-)

You didn't export as .obj then. You exported in Bryce's native format of .obp Those are different formats

My mistake, I didn't read properly. Silly me ;-)

This question comes up SO frequently, in so many variations, there really should be a BIG sign at the top of the forum saying "Before you ask, NO, you CANNOT export Bryce-created objects to another format. Maybe in the next version."

catlin_mc ( ) posted Tue, 15 October 2002 at 7:48 PM

If you make an object in Bryce can it be exported as another formst before you've turned it into a Bryce preset ?

Aldaron ( ) posted Tue, 15 October 2002 at 8:07 PM

No Bryce primitives can be exported, period. Only terrains, lattices and rock may be exported.

"No Bryce primitives can be exported, period. Only terrains, lattices and rock may be exported." And previously imported models too. 8 ) Tom
