Subject: Morph Target Problem

Willowjune ( ) posted Wed, 16 October 2002 at 10:29 PM ยท edited Tue, 05 November 2024 at 11:59 PM

I have Poser4 and am able to create morph targets in Rhino for Posette's head (I'm making an older character and have done hooded eyes, undereye softening, jowls, etc). No problem with these. Posette's geometry file to Obj3dm, load into Rhino, delete all but head, make changes, export as .obj file, open Poser, put Posette into the document window, click on Object -> Properties -> add morph target, and there's the parameter dial, which works fine. But when I try to do morph targets on the abdomen or hip parts, I have a problem. When working in Rhino, I'm very careful not to add or delete control points and to not move anything around the edges. Then I follow the same procedure as above, but I get "Incorrect number of vertices." Back when I couldn't get anything to work, Roy G. suggested importing the part from Rhino into Poser as a prop, exporting it as a morph target, then adding as morph target. However, that doesn't work for me. Any suggestions?

Hi, Rrather than delete body part in rhino, just export only the body part you need in poser. Check only the body part you in the Hierarchy Selection windows. In the last windows uncheck all except as morph target. I think is because the you export several body parts with the weld body parts seams you have those troubles. Cheers Guy

Thanks for answering. Guess I didn't explain myself clearly--I do only export one body part and I follow your other suggestions as well.

Make sure OBJ23DM is set to NOT export materials or UVMapping coordinates... Also, using the "smooth" function on a mesh can cause Rhino to add vertices, and sometimes split a vertex into numerous vertices, creating a ring.

Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!

Oh, yikes! I had no idea that using "smooth" could add vertices. I've been using it with abandon. Thanks for the tip. Just now I got Compose to work (this was an alternate method I hadn't done successfully before)and did get my hip and abdomen morphs back into Poser, but wasn't too happy with them. Guess there's a lot of trial and error in learning all this.
