hi again:) I really love the way we access the graph panels in p5! with the morphs control and reset...It really helped me to achieve a more realistic expression for my character. Of course you can surely do the same in poser 4 but the access is better in poser 5.(my personal opinion) You can view the results in this short anim...there is still some work to do tho...

Great looking character/smile! (I'm still waiting on the anim to download ;).

Looking very good :)

Can you tell us the number of frames and AVI settings? I tend to end up with a file that is too big to download.

Thanks Spanki!:) I named her Finesse...but I still have a lots of work on her I guess:) Phil the file is a 527 frames Divx movie, about 3.07 MB. Is this too big??? I can try to make a smaller version if you want...

PhilC ( ) posted Sat, 19 October 2002 at 7:42 AM

I'm on DSL so it downloaded fine. I'm a tad in the dark regarding AVI, Divx, codex etc. Not quite sure where to start. Do I need Quicktime Pro or something?

you only need the divx drivers...try here: http://www.divx.com/ It's a really good compression method and saves a lots of space in your drive!;) hopefully you will like it...

neftis ( ) posted Sat, 19 October 2002 at 7:56 AM

I forgot to say that any player that support avi will play it very nicely...

Graham_B ( ) posted Sat, 19 October 2002 at 8:00 AM

Phil, you can download the DivX codec (latest version is 5.0.2) and player from http://www.divx.com/divx/ It is a free download. Graham

oops, x-posted there, sorry

Actually it won't play on the newest microsoft avi media player. Just downloaded the newest. Marque

Wow! Very nice... an inspiration to buckle-down and learn Poser 5! Ray

Marque... What version? I've got Mediaplayer 8 and of course the divx codec, and it plays fine. Is there a newer version than 8.0? My XP tells me it's the newest version... But you'll have to install the DivX also. Mediaplayer has no built-in DivX support.

Right that's what I was saying, she had mentioned that any player that supports avi will work. Neftis, downloaded the divx and played it, that is so good! Very impressive, especially the little wince to the eyes. Nice job. Marque

The face looks nice. It opened up in quicktime for me. It has the speaker icon indicating that there is sound. But, I heard nothing as it played. One question about the first quarter of the clip...as her mouth opens to expose the teeth...as the mouth closes the teeth at the corners of the mouth jut out too far. Is this something that is easy to tweak so that the teeth don't do this? In all it looks very good.

Wow! She is impressive. You are doing an excellent and an inspiring job. How long did it take to render?

wolf:I believe what is new if you try the dials is the easy access to the morphs parameters (sorry for the bad spelling) Nothing in the fonctions are really new more than the dials morphs access... Thanks everyone for your nice comments! petereed, yes I think I can easily change that...It was a test for a future animation setting. Phil did you got divx?? I hope you'll enjoy it...I use it all the time:)

Bobasaur ( ) posted Sat, 19 October 2002 at 3:19 PM

Neftis, The total number of frames is probably not an issue. However, your resolution (640 x 585) actually has more pixels than digital video (720 x 480). That, combined with a frame rate set at 29.97 fps, may may it a little difficult for most to play smoothly on their computers. Computers don't like 29.97 - they prefer an even number like 30 fps. They'll try but will still occasionally glitch. Instead of making the movie shorter I'd recommend resizing it to a smaller dimension and changing the frame rate to an even 30 fps. If you do that, you can make it much longer and still get smooth playback. Techinical recommendations aside, it looks great. Mastery of the graph editor is critical to mecoming a good animator and it sure looks like you're getting the hang of it! BTW, Petereed, are you on a Mac? I am. I get the speaker/volume control on the left but the "graphic equalizer" display isn't there on the right. I checked the file info and it doesn't list an audio track. There is no soundtrack in the animation. Bobasaur (I was 7 of 12)

Oh good tips Bobasaur! I am taking good notes!!:) And you are right...I haven't put any sounds for this anim. Although I might do it when I resise the anim:) hehe Let's see...what good music track I have here...

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Sat, 19 October 2002 at 4:52 PM

Be sure to get the regular version of DivX, rather than DivX Pro. The free version of Pro has adware (although there are ways to circumvent it). The only real advantages to using the Pro versions are some additional encoding options when you compress your own videos.

If you have any around, go back and view your first attempts at animation. Then come back to this. Then take a few moments to enjoy the fact that you've come so far! (Sometimes we get so focused on how far we have to go that we forget to enjoy how far we've come!)
