Subject: Need tips on rendering a decent cartoonish-looking character...

Well...I created a model of myself and I wanted to give it a cartoonish look...so I've been using the sketch render function to make it look that way, but it's not working out the way I thought it would. I've tried playing with the lights and stuff...it didn't help a whole lot, and to make matters worse, all of the lines in the character are being highlighted, which makes things look really stupid. It even happens when I'm using cartoons without lines mode. So does anyone have any tips for giving a character that kind of comic book/cartoon look, and for eliminating those lines? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've tried to accomplish same, but with little luck in Poser. Lightwave's cell shader is great and does work with Inspire3D, but the render time is quite lengthy.

The sketch renderer really doesn't do a good job for cartoon-like images.......just use the cartoon mode, no textures, change the body part colors to accentuate them (cartoon mode washes out colors), adjust the lights, and position the figure so that the lights cast shadows that look like cartoon shadows....it's a lot of work but I've done it successfully.......I've even created a drawn outline look that is pretty good..... Hi Folks! Airuis, if you have access to Photoshop 3.0 or above, try opening your image and playing with the settings in the Ink Outlines, Poster Edges, Dark Strokes or Glowing edges filters. You might get the look you're trying to create. Peter (Dr Zik)

Hi, Airus You can create acceptable results with Paint Shop Pro - have a look at the "Poser cartoons" message posted. The recipe can be expanded to make pencil drawings and other natural media imitations, but alas, not without some time-consuming fiddling with paper tex's etc. Have fun, thip
