So what's the record thread-length? How far do we have to go to beat it?

Well I'm willing to add to the length. The weather has been pretty gorgeous here in the NW, which is a surprise because by now it's usually settled into the steady winter drizzle. Since we are so off topic anyway, have any of you ever changed the heating element in an oven, mine is broken and needs to be replaced. Lin

Aldaron ( ) posted Mon, 21 October 2002 at 4:33 PM

Well adding to the off topic. Most oven heating elements just plug in like the stove top elements.

Rayraz ( ) posted Tue, 22 October 2002 at 9:02 AM

I don't know too much about ovens. Maybe your oven has a helpdesk?..

Yep, it comes with the built in DONT PANIC! gadget to access the helpdesk just press the red button. NEVER press the green one.

110 posts and counting ... Gorgeous day here, sunny with expected highs in the mid 60s. A welcome change after a week of rain.

Aldaron ( ) posted Tue, 22 October 2002 at 10:44 AM

Hmmmph.....cloudy all week here with high's in the 40's. (WI)

catlin_mc ( ) posted Tue, 22 October 2002 at 11:45 AM

Rain, rain, and more rain. With temperatures of between -3 and -4 degrees expected over the weekend. :(

lsstrout ( ) posted Tue, 22 October 2002 at 11:48 AM

Well the last time an oven element went out, I called a repair guy, but I haven't got the spare money for that now. He seemed to have to use a wrench, if I remember correctly. I suppose I'll just have to crawl in the darn thing and look for myself. Maybe I can dress up as the Hansel and Gretel witch and at least get an amusing picture out of it.

Atomic_Anvil ( ) posted Tue, 22 October 2002 at 11:51 AM

Isstrout, Just be sure to disconnect electric power to your stove before you go crawling in there, wouldn't want you to have a "shocking" experience. Atomic Anvil

Rayraz ( ) posted Tue, 22 October 2002 at 2:26 PM

Rayraz, it's those cold Arctic winds that are causing all the problems. "The North wind doth blow, and we will have snow, and what will cock robin do then, poor thing,"..........Freeze.

Nukeboy ( ) posted Tue, 22 October 2002 at 6:04 PM

Autumn is usually our best time of year here on the Central Coast. Summers tend to be very foggy (inland temps are in the 100s which sucks the moisture on shore. By October, the inland has cooled down and the coast is beautiful... clear skies with temps around 70 / 50 F. We're hoping for a rainy winter, we've been experiencing drought conditions; 5 inches less rain than usual. "They" are predicting El Nino conditions which will either bring floods, or no rain at all. Go figure.

Zhann ( ) posted Tue, 22 October 2002 at 11:33 PM

Well it's been sunny and in the 60's in Colorado, perfect Indian Summer, no leaves left. Just today it was overcast, I hope it drizzles all week, we could use the water. If we don't get much snow (and it should have started by now) next summer we'll have a repeat of the Glenwood Springs/Durango/West Elk Creek/Frontrange fires. (It's very distrubing walking out your front door into a cloud of smoke)Our house backs up to BLM land (Bureau of Land Management) where all the wild fires start...can't wait for snow, snow, SNOW...

I've washed the car and all the windows of my house. Praying for rain. We need it so much here in California. Last year we only had a little over 3 inches for the entire year. Even the weeds in my backyard didn't grow. Today it is cloudy and cool - about 60. First chance of rain in a looooong time.

You are all praying for rain and here in the West of Scotland we're praying that the tap turns itself off. In the news last night on TV, we were being told that more rain fell in some areas, in a few hours, than was normal for the entire month leading to wide spread flooding everywhere. And they say that global warming is not a reality. Could we swap weather for a while guys......Please

lsstrout ( ) posted Wed, 23 October 2002 at 4:21 PM

Perhaps we need a rain moving ceremony... In the Pacific Northwest we have FOG. A few planes have been grounded and some ferries held up. I've always thought fog was neat. Atomic Anvil, thanks for reminding me about the power. Better safe than sorry. Lin

catlin_mc ( ) posted Wed, 23 October 2002 at 6:03 PM

Well fog can look lovely when rendering certain situations, I too thinks it's neat as long as I'm not doing 60mph on the motorway. :)

Aldaron ( ) posted Wed, 23 October 2002 at 6:24 PM

Be careful with that fog, near Milwaukee we just recently had like a 40 car pileup with 10 fatalities.

catlin_mc, I have family in Scotland somewhere, my mother's father was from there, family name of Glass...I always wanted to visit, just couldn't afford it. I hear the landscape is beautiful, even in the rain!...:) Zhann

I have family in the US, Australia and Canada. The only ones we have regular contact with live in Vancuver BC. It seems that no matter where you go on the planet there are Scots, and I believe that the US is made up of many Scots and their descendants. You never know we may be related. :) Catlin
