Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 28 11:20 am)

Subject: Sure it's been discussed before, but...

...I'm too damned lazy to sift through the last two years of postings to find the answer. I currently have Poser5....Poser3, which I still have the boxed CD and manual for is long since removed from my old computer, the HD reformatted and the 'puter given away as spare parts. Is it legal/OK for me to give my old copy of P3 to someone else to use? Specifically I have encountered a young college student majoring in graphic art with special interest in animation who I know would benefit from having at least an early version of the program and it might pique his interest in computer arts? If I give it to him, should he try to register it or just use it as an unregistered copy?....I think Computer Arts and other mags were giving P3 away some time ago. If you used Poser 3 to update to Poser 5 then no. If you bought Poser 5 as a standalone I would think yes, but you may have to wait til they can answer you. Marque

The best solution is to contact Curious Labs, explain the situation and ask if it's OK to transfer the license. From what I've heard, they are quite understanding in matters like this. After all, it gives them a new user who is a potential customer for future upgrades.

Definitely talk to CL on this if your Poser is upgraded from that copy of P3. Because the student or someone else could conceivably beat you to upgrading sometime on YOUR registration number, and cause you trouble!

If it is an upgrade you can't, no reason to talk to CL, your upgrade is dependent on your serial number. Marque

If it turns out that you can't give away your Poser 3, the potential recipient might be interested to know that it was available as a freebie with a UK based magazine fairly recently. I think it was Computer Arts, but I can't be sure - however, someone else might be!

I upgraded from P3 to P4 and then from P4 to P5...I'll holler at CL.... Scarab
