I decided to try using the P5 hair to make grass for a scene. here are the results. I found that the high rez cloth did not have enough vertexes to create a really thick lawn so I imported an extremely high poly terrain from bryce and that did the trick, though grooming or rather ungrooming took a while.

Looks good, now tell us what the cost was in render time :-)

Ok just for curiosity's sake did a render test. rendered in 1000x810 window High rez textures with firefly production. complete scene rendered 11:00 even complete scene minus grass rendered 9:08 just under 2 minute difference.

Haven't tried, but could you just duplicate the hi-res square with grown hair? Just like you would in Bryce. :-)

PS: Have you tried exporting the hair and importing it in Bryce? Would be a nice alternative to a spiked terrain, or possibly even to Grass. Will try that this evening.

yes I could have saved a grass prop and loaded it multiple times but prefered to do it this way, that way if I want to use magnets to morph it I don't have to morph multiple objects, P5 hair doesn't import very satisfactrily into bryce and you loose the ability to style it.
