Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 09 3:46 am)
Yeah, what mosca asked, PLUS...will it work when you want to export the model into another program for rendering (I almost never render in Poser itself...too dark and dreary and limited). AND, it wouldn't work for me anyway because I can't seem to figure out how to use those stupid magnets no matter how many times I read the dadblasted manual. :) Kate the magnet impaired
This may be a stupid question - forgive me as I just woke up not too long ago - and you know how when you're half asleep you get these half baked ideas? I was wondering looking at this square idea with magnets - it's brilliant - but I'm wondering since the cosmo cd offers a 360 degree view - wouldn't it be possible to create 3 more props, one for each side and the back, maybe a fifth one for the top of the head, conform each one with magnets seperately, map them and get a 360 degree view of the hair - maybe I'm just crazy or could it work?
It just get better and better all the time around this place. I am about to do something really stupid and suggest that we pool all these talented folks together on this forum and let them build, morph, texture, cloth, and hair, an official forum version of the Millenium Guy and Gal. Now choosing that look ought to be real controversal! And artistic temporment being what it is, we might just start the next world war!! LOL Rob
Great Work Trav, my compliments. Remember people this idea is not limited to front Views. If the pose you are working on has the head at 45 degrees to camera then look for hair in a Magazine were the model has a similar head pose, Scan the hair and map it. I cruise the Magazines once a week looking for hair I can use, I have over 400 styles and angles now. The Cosmo CD is great for front, side and back shots. Remember if it looks right it is right With this simple idea the people trying to get a more realistic image should be able to get closer to it. The Hair has always been the weak spot, well not anymore. This idea is also not limited to Hair, you can use it on most anything, as long as the original mapped picture is rouchly the same angle, try it. You can also use more than 1 square to get the effect of Fullness. If you have a 3D editing application use it, the magnets are great from inside poser and work just as well, thanks to Trav for making it Poser ready, I use Max only because I like the way it edits meshs. Trav, you are a wonder and one of a kind.

Ok, before I get into the nitty gritty technical stuff, yes I will be posting the prop, texture, and mag sets later tonight (need more time to play) This is a teaser really ;) Ok here is how it works for poser: -Take a square plane that is made up of a halfway fine mesh -Make a map for the hair, and a transmap. -Use magnets to warp areas of the plane around the head, giving the illusion that the hair exists in 3D space. In this example I used one at the forehead to pull the bangs out infront of the posette's head. I then used two more, one to pull the left side of the hair over the shoulder and the right in back of the shoulder, as that was how the hair was in the pict I chopped it from. -Render and bango, you have hair. Paul you are a genius, from here on in I am scraping my trans hair, this is just too darn easy. Like I said I will have the download and mini-tutorial ready by tonight. -Trav
