Subject: It's That Time Again (November Challenge Ideas)

Yes dear forum members it's that time again...the end of the month is fast upon us and soon a new month will begin... It is now time to begin thinking of what next months challenge will be.... Last month L8tr had an idea that sounded really cool and I thought it would be fun to try. His suggestion was: Point of View (POV)- Imagine yourself as a bug or animal...maybe a child..create/capture an image from something else's perspective. I'm calling for any other ideas that you may have, so please share your ideas with us....we can then decide if it'll be the POV idea or something else for November... And if you haven't sent in your entry for October Challenge yet...DO IT!!!

Sort of like 'imagine yourself being a rat, weasel or a cockroach' ? Well, that's shouldn't be a difficult challenge for some of us! ;) Sorry, just had to make this silly joke :)

I actually like your idea, and prefer to shoot in natural light at all times. It is challenging and since I don't have a studio with all the pretty lights, a necessity for me. I think that the whole point of an exercise such as this (POV) is too help the photographer try and see things from a different perspective. Quite often we get locked into shooting images straight-on from the same typical angle over and over again. By pretending to be a bug, animal, child, whatever you are trying to see things in a different way. Maybe low down to the ground or birds eye view...these can make for fun, interesting, and sometimes downright amazing images. Anyone else have an opinion.....I'd love to hear more ideas.

[Someday we'll do a Cat Festival!] Maybe I'll pretend I'm a cat this time; though then would 'prolly just ignore the whole thing... I would like to nominate my boss for some of the other creature suggestions. Don't think we want to get too hung up on actual animal physiology; from a dog's point of view, I don't quite know how to get the smells across the modem. But that does not seem to be the point. Different point of view or perspective seems to be the point. I like it. We try to encourage different (polite) points of view here. Dogma does have an interesting suggestion about portraits. Since we've been at this for over a year now, are we reaching too far into wierdness for the Challenges? Would folks like to see some return to the basics, with maybe instruction along the way about portrait, landscape, etc.? I personally thought "backlighting" was nice basic material for everyone. Main reason for the Challenges [in my point of view] is to force us to try new things.

Don't worry Misha...I have a book (literally) full of ideas. That's where I got my backlighting idea from (Kodak's Complete Book Of Photography). I thought that it would be fun to focus on basic concepts and ideas from that and other photography books I have each month. Let face it, no matter where your skill levels are we all have room for improvement, even when it comes to basic concepts. But L8tr did make this suggestion last month and folks seemed all gung-ho for it then. That's why I have brought it up for this month.....

Who says we can't be silly sometimes? :-) There are also such things as imagination and willing suspension of disbelief to aid us in creating our images. Keep those ideas and suggestions coming! (*

I feel POV is a very basic concept of photograph, and one we should explore, The camera position and the lens choice are very important to feel of the shot. I think all that is being asked is we dont shoot from eye level. One of the best things I ever learnt was to bend my knees at 66 you can see why, I have a very different POV than the average Joe :O)
