Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 07 7:37 am)
Glad you found some stuff there that you liked, I'm sure Steve and co will be very pleased by that. Most of the clothes and characters that you can download or purchase around the various sites should come with a UV Template - this is a squarish image covered with black lines like a web or network that resemble the shape of the model they're for That's the thing you need to make textures. Open the template in a graphics editor (Corel Photo Paint, Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop or similar), and you'll see that the basic shapes of the clothing or character will be laid out flat. If you use a program that supports layers, create a new layer, and you can start painting onto that template (using a layer means you can delete the work and save the file without destroying the template) You can then copy and past the textures you've downloaded onto that layer over the lines. But that won't look to good. It's work, it's a lot of fiddling but with care you can get some very nice finishes. It's difficult to explain in simple stages here, but I'd be happy to share what I know over email where we can chat a bit more quickly and easily. Also, check out the UV texturing forum at Runtim DNA http://host1.bondware.com/~syydr/ And the texture related forum at PoserPros which I'm told contains some very good tutorials on this. http://www.poserpros.com You'll need to register on those sites but they won't cost you any money (except with tempting things in the store) Hope that helps a little
many thank yous, perhaps we can use the poserworld private forum as the email in my country is no good, many times mail bounces and i do not get emails. today so far it has been good but for parts of the most it doesn't work well and free webmail is alwasy full of junk mails so i do not use it any more.
Basically, yes. But very basically. Try it and render the result in Poser, you'll see what it looks like. It's better to scale the image you are going to use and then to work that into the template, working on the shapes and different items to get the look you want. A lot of detail can be added to the template that doesn't exist on the model. If you have downloaded some of the things from Poserworld, take a look at the texture's Rena has done for the clothing and you'll get an idea what needs to be done. It'll take a bit of practice because UVMaps can cause stretching but it can be done. Have fun. :)
"Oh please Mr. Questor... " Joins CyberStrech in rolling out of chair laughing hysterically Sorry old chap. It had to be done. ;]
"I am a good person now and it feels... well, pretty much the same as I felt before (except that the headaches have gone away now that I'm not wearing control top pantyhose on my head anymore)"
Of course it did Ironbear and you're welcome to laugh. I'll deal with you later also. :) However it's been brought to my attention that I'm being used as a patsy here. Someone is playing rather silly little games and I can't say I'm too impressed. If what I suspect and have been told turns out to be true, then there is going to be hell to pay. I don't mind helping people with genuine questions and I'll often go out of my way to help people if I can. However, I don't appreciate being conned into helping someone mislead others for a bit of free advertising. I much prefer things be done openly and honestly and not by screwing people over for a cheap laugh. There are limits. I have no solid proof at this moment in time to back up my suspicions. Yet. God help them if this is who I think it is. I don't mind supporting Steve Shanks and/or helping to promote Poserworld because it really IS one of the best deals around, with great content and lots of it. same as I don't mind promoting anyone else that I think creates good work. But I'm damned if I'll play patsy to a carny shill who doesn't have the guts to be open. Anyway, I can't really say much more until I have proof. Then... well, then it'll be my turn to play.

Hi, THis IS Alberto again. I am asking you since you seem to know a bit about Poser. Of course I have subscribed to poserworld. The content there is beyond my dreams, so much to pick from and lovely to look at. I was looking around several of the sites that seem related to poserworld (the poser tutorials at interneteye3d, but i found som excellent cloth and wool textures at 3dtextureworld.com (?). I need some help in using them. I am very new to Poser and want to use some of these clothing textures that i found. Is there a requirement on size for Poser? I read somewhere their being a special size ( i think). I am using .obj objects and that softwares call UVmapping or is it mapper? Anyway could you please assist me in what i need to do for the textures? Thanks, AlbertoFly
