Subject: Bryce Models INTO Poser?

Fredoray ( ) posted Sat, 26 October 2002 at 7:19 PM · edited Mon, 13 January 2025 at 7:38 PM

Is it possible to import a Bryce model into Poser? There's a great UFO I'd like to work with, but it's available only as a Bryce model? Possible? Impossible? FRED

If you can export it as an Object (.obj) then you can import it into Poser. ;=]

So do you need Bryce in order to export it as an .obj?

Not if it's already in.obj format. ;=]

if it is a native Bryce format(which is .obp) then you can not. If it's and .obj already, you can skip Bryce and import it directly into Poser. Unless it was a previously imported .obj in Bryce and has no primitives or booleans. you might be able to pull it off and export it from Bryce as an.obj.and then import it into Poser. Cornfused enough yet?...lol If you don't have Bryce, perhaps you could contact the creator and ask if there is an. "Un- Bryce" version he/she could provide you with. Can you provide a link to where this model lives? Maybe I can tell right off the bat if it's for Bryce only. Tom

It's the EARTH VS THE FLYING SAUCERS model in the Renderosity maketplace -- there doesn't appear to be a poser version. :-( Fred

I'm not sure where you got Bryce from. The following is what I read. ________________________________________________________ From The Classic Sci-Fi Movie Movable Elevator and Doors Readme File: Click here to view the readme file for this product. System Requirements: 3D Studio Max 3.1 ________________________________________________________ So it looks like it's a 3DSMax file. Which is good for you actually. I'm sure if you asked the creator for an.obj version he/she could easily export it from Max in any format you want. Then you could import it into Poser. It's worth a shot. If I was selling the file,I'd convert it for a customer in the interest of getting the sale. Actually He/she might even sell more with a more flexible format such as .obj,.3ds,etc. So anyway...Bryce will not help you one bit with this model. it's in maxs' native format. Good luck Tom

go to the modelling forum and d/ld gmax. that will translate the max file for you for exportation. if you can't export to .obj file...i don't have gmax...i do have max...export as autocad. dxf, or dwg...i think that last is right. most everything reads that...i know bryce does.

now there is another option for ya..Thanks Poppi,I completely forgot about the various converters. I used to use 3DExplorer from Right Hemisphers but the free version isn't available any more IIRC. Fred Be mindfull that conversions will likely effect the"Movable Elevator and Doors" depending on if the groups are retained during conversion. But I would not expect them to behave as expected in Poser after converting it. Poppi, gmax only permits you to export to its own proprietary format and a few computer game formats (mainly Quake 3). discreet is giving this software away as a game creation tool for the masses, but doesn't want it to compete directly with its flagship product, 3DS Max, so it doesn't export to any industry-standard formats. And discreet charges the game developers an arm and a leg for the privilege of game support. However, you can convert Quake 3 meshes to other formats using tools like MilkShape, so there are workarounds.

Yet another option for you if you live in the UK is to buy this months version (issue31) of 3D World magazine because they have a 30 day fully functional trial of 3DSMax v5 on the cover cd. I am not sure which other countries 3D World mag is available in, you would need to check thier web site at www.3Dworldmag.com. Good luck Graham

It does NOT convert MAX. AFAIK, only the high-priced converters will touch max files, the ones with the $500+ price tags.
