Poser Technical F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 04 2:47 am)
Welcome to the Poser Technical Forum.
Where computer nerds can Pull out their slide rules and not get laughed at. Pocket protectors are not required. ;-)
This is the place you come to ask questions and share new ideas about using the internal file structure of Poser to push the program past it's normal limits.
New users are encouraged to read the FAQ sections here and on the Poser forum before asking questions.
Hi Tofu. Top 3 (re-skinning): The correct term would be "texturing" ;-) I have a German version of P4, so I don't know the exact names of the menu topics. Try to figure it out: Note: Vicky has two separate texture maps, one for the head and one for the body. You have to apply them to each respective part. Start with the "body", because there are only few elements to supply with a texture. - Load Vicky into the pose room - Select the "body" of your Vicky - Open the "render -> surface material (or so)" menu. Or use "CTRL+U" - Uncheck the box reading "... apply to figure" (or so it reads). - From the "Material" drop down menu select "SkinBody" (or any other part which belongs to the body like, "Toenails" or "Fingernails" but not to parts belonging to the head like, "lips". - Use "Load" under "texture map" to locate and load your new "skin". Maybe you have to select it with the drop down menu. - Proceed until you're done with all the body materials, of which Vicky has quite a lot. - Finally: Press OK I hope this helps a little. Willy
Darn. I forgot to mention that you'll have to: - select "HeadSkin" from "materials" - load the "head"-texture - assign this texture to the head parts (lips, eyes, etc.) in turn before you should leave with the OK-button. Of course, you can enter the "material"-section as often, as you like. Change the base colors of the parts and have fun. You'll get the best results when making the basic colors of each body part white at first. The whole process is a chore when done this way. So there are so called MAT-files out there (probably with the textures you have bought) to change the "skin" with one double click in the pose library. But that's a different story :-) Willy
Attached Link: Bat labs
Here is the URL for Bat Labs, thanks to Kenmac for findind it, you have to become a member to use it, but it's free: http://bat.server.ne.jp/index2.htmlFirst: Simply with an ASCII editor like, Notepad, or so. But watch out! The art of editing a cr2 or any other poser related file may cause "unpredictable results" :-) Second: with a utility named CR2EDIT, which is out there, on http://www.zenwareonline.com/ for just $50. It is in its version 5 now. I can't tell you more about it, because I don't have it :( Willy
You can edit a cr2 in a text editor, but always make a backup first. Editing cr2's is not for the novice, but if want to try changing the bump map reference do a text search for the word "bumpMap". Assuming the file you want to reference is in the "Textures" folder or one of its sub-folders use the format: bumpMap ":bump.jpg" Where "bump.jpeg" is the name of your bump map, and is preceded by a colon and enclosed in double quotation marks. It is not necessary to include the full path as long as the file is in "..Runtimetextures" or one of its sub-folders, this holds true for any Poser 4 map files. Some information on the structure of cr2's is available at: http://www.kzin.org/poser/cr2/index.htm

Was hoping someone could explain a few things. 1) I run into various, seemingly random (various single items within a group of associated pieces of clothing) clothing items (not textures, the actual clothing object) that when I try to load them, a prompt box asks me to find the associated .bum file. I read several tutorials that explained that Poser Pro automatically uses the .jpg file to do what Poser 4/4.03 needed a .bum file to do. Seeing as how I'm using Poser Pro, how can I get these clothing items to show up? 2) I'm not sure if this is the correct forum, but I'm having as hell of a time finding stockings for Victoria. I must suck at figuring out all the texture/transparency maps or something because I can't get anything to work...I downloaded some free stockings from this site, but they only fit the Poser 4 female body. If anyone can shed any light on this, that would be appreciated. 3) While we're on the subject of textures and maps and so on, how exactly do all of these "reskins" for the basic Poser female bodies work? I downloaded one from the free section, just to look, but again, my overwhelming stupidity prevented me from figuring it out. It must be simple... Thanks for the help.
