Subject: Anyone try to do a "furry" (a anthropomorphic animal char) in P5?

Seems like cover Victoria2 with hair, slap on a tail and a cat face morph, and pow!

I'm going to try this as soon as I get throught the other 27 things on my list of things to try...:-)

It was the first thing I tried When I got P5. Fur for animals was the only thing I really needed/wanted to be added to Poser. Unfortunately, The hair is too computer intensive. And my 1Ghz. PIII crashes when I try to render this. It's just too much for my computer to handle. :-( The hair was not intended to be used as fur. It's too demanding on the resources. But you might get lucky with a faster machine. ScottA

Zenman, I'm not overly fond of "furry" art, however I recognize that to do them well takes skill. It is more than a natural fur coat and a tail! Sheesh!!! The legs and feet need to be digitigrade and the front arms need to end in something close to paws. This requires modeling ability. Anybody can pin a tail on a donkey, but getting those feet to look right and be in proportion, for the exact type of creature anthropomorphsized, is difficult. (This also explains why we STILL do not have a decent-looking centaur model.) If done correctly, these cross-overs would have 6 breasts, but I've been assured that they would lose some of their attraction if accuracy was allowed to get in the way of fantasy. Lemurtek and Little_Dragon both have a nice selection of such characters. Somebody did a test of golden fur on a regular female model. As ScottA mentions above, you will need a lot of computing power. Carolly Carolly

Actually, the furry community seems to be fairly evenly divided over the whole digitigrade/plantigrade legs issue. I appreciate both styles, myself, but as hauksdottir points out, designing digitigrade legs in Poser requires a lot more work.

Anyone else having SERIOUS problems posting pictures up? It was one of the first things I tried with P5 - well, it's a natural isn't it? I only did the head, and didn't think back then to conserve resources (on my PIII 850 with 512MB RAM) by not bothering with the back of the head (doh!). This uses the DAZ freebie "LE" edition of the gorilla, and a free-stuff texture by Paul Leatham (which was also used as source for hair texture and skin displacement map). Cliff Bowman

If you want a faster way to simulate fur, you can use the shaders in the material room instead of using the hair room...Or try to combine it... The material room can be very good when mixing materials. here is an example...

It's a chia cat!

Zenman53186, do a search for "lemurtech". He's made quite a few furry poser characters, some of which he has made available for free. I know he has a lion man for sure, and quite a few others.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Wed, 30 October 2002 at 8:07 AM

They're all available at 3-D Arena.

Hi Pokeydots. You can download the puppy (without fur) from my web site. It's free. ScottA

That puppy up there would make an AWESOME back scratcher!

ScottA ( ) posted Wed, 30 October 2002 at 1:28 PM

Lol. Yeah. When it's not rendered it does kinda look like a porccu-pup. ;-) Don't get too close. You'll poke you're eyes out. :-) ScottA

You might have better look searching for Lemurtek, that Lemurtech guy is such a poseur! :) Anyway, like LD said, all my Second Nature furries are at 3-DArena, and all are free. Some have Digitigrade (every time I pronounce that word, I sound like a cartton character about to sneeze!) legs, and some have plantigrade. They're on Page 2 in the freestuff section (link at top of page) I don't have P5, so I don't know how well they'd work (they're all based on the P4 figures), but you're more than welcome to try. Regards- Lemurtek

I dunno if Cerebus exactly counts as a 'furry' but he *is* an anthropomorphic cartoon aardvark. Anyway, he's free to download.
