Subject: Prop Question

Is it possible to make something like a hollow cylinder (like a tube) from Poser primitives, or is another program (like Bryce or Lightwave) required? Guy

Why not use the grouping tool to cut off the ends of a cylinder? --lb

Bryce wouldn't work for you because the primitives don't export. But there are a ton of free modelers out there that will do the trick for something as simple as this. If you're on a PC, then Metasequoia will do it easy enough and give you some extra things to play with as well.

Try the Torus... adjust the fattness, scale the x,y,andz

Cutting the end off a cylinder would work to some degree, but I'd like there to be some thickness to the wall of the cylinder. The torus might work to some degree, but I don't want the ends of the cylinder to be rounded. I'll take a look at metasequoia. Know of any other free modellers that might work? Thanks! Guy

when you say the ends of the cylinder do you meen the lip? if so, try using a second cylinder for the lip.

Wings 3D Excellent Poser assistant!

Use 2 cylinders. Export one and then import it with reversed normals. Use this for the inside of the "tube." Then take 2 torus and flatten them to fill the small gap between the "inside" and "outside" cylinders. Export the "parts" then import as 1 prop. cheers, dr geep ;=]

Remember ... "With Poser, all things are possible, and poseable!"

cheers,

dr geep ... :o]

Whoa. That's very neat! Never thought of that. Thanks! Guy

yeah, there are many modelers that are free out there. visit the site I sent you and play with the links. hammapatch, spatch, wings, etc. If you go to the amapi forum here, there's a link to the amapi 4.15 freeware version and that's a very powerful modeler for free. If you want to buy modelers, my recommendation is the dvgarage kit that comes in a popup screen when you visit www.universe3d.com Its $200 and comes with a very powerful animator, modeler, and organic modeler (amorphium pro). You'll need to be on a mac or NT system to use it. I can't say enough about Universe Modeler!!!

hi - i have a morphing ring/tube in my download area at: (it's a bit edged and the textures are somehow distorted. but you can scale it at your taste, then export it as a single prop and apply a new texture if desired ...) i used the uvmapper tool lithunwrap (downloaded at: http://www.geocities.com/lithunwrap - sorry don't know wehter the link still works ...) withihn this program you can create a tube of variable length and thickness. hope this helps :) joe

I have 3 packs of weird primitives at 3D Commune Freestuff. The 1st one has a tube, semi-tube and quarter tube. Each pack has around 30 bizarre shapes that Poser doesn't have. They're called Prop-o-rama 1,2 and 3. Search for 'maclean' if you need them. mac
