Subject: Wireframe Renderings?

rolfi ( ) posted Thu, 06 April 2000 at 5:41 AM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 9:12 PM

can anyone tell me, how i can generate those wireframe renderings like in some MT thumbnails or like in mobius' Millie wallpaper? when i render a pic in Poser, it does not depend on neither Document Display style nor on Figure style nor on Element style.

There was a mini tutorial on this posted waaaaay back. Try a search of the Poser forum using Wireframe or Mobius as the search parameter. If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll see if I can dig it up for you Paul

The tutorial is at Happyworld Land: http://store.yahoo.net/happyworldland/ The basics are: -Set view mode to the one you want. -Don't render it, but anti-alias the view -Export the image -Do a normal render and export this -Combine the two in a picture editing program

Ok this is by FAR not the only way to do this but it's simple and I am assuming you all know how to create layer masks in photoshop... Here's a quickie for those of you not wanting to look far: Go into poser, select the wireframe display (cntrl3 or cntrl4) for your intended "subject" Go to the RENDER menu and select ANTIALIAS DOCUMENT Once the image has been Antialiased go to the FILE menu and EXPORT IMAGE. Save it as you like. Next RENDER THE SCENE. And then FILE/EXPORT DOCUMENT or save it out, whichever you prefer or are happiest with. THEN in your favorite post work program (painter, photoshop, etc) open up BOTH images....(I use photoshop so my example will be with that) and put them into the same document lined up, one on top of the other, then perform a layer mask in which you allow one of the layers to show through on the other as you paint what you want revealed as WIRE with the paintbrush tool or airbrush. That's that...save it and you have yourself the effect. Granted I've seen other ways of doing this but they all pretty much lead to the same effect. Some are better ways of doing it others are just extra steps to accomplish the same thing. Mix and Match and see what's best for you! (to learn how to mask the images consult your manuals) PAN~ federation-21.com

I've seen some mobius pictures with a much more dense wireframe than the one appearing when poser is set to wireframe. I wonder if there was used a special texture or simply painted more lines to the picture. ... any ideas? -Ede

rolfi ( ) posted Thu, 06 April 2000 at 8:36 AM

Thx a lot, think that helps me. I might be wrong, but didn't the renderer in earlier poser versions render, what you set up in Poser Display?

PANdaRUS ( ) posted Thu, 06 April 2000 at 8:38 AM

It's very possible it was set at a higher resolution/bigger size when the wireframe was exported out. Also the possibility that it was done in an entirely DIFFERENT application is also likely. (What!? Why would anyone want to use something other than poser? Blasphemy I says!) :) PAN

Ede ( ) posted Thu, 06 April 2000 at 8:38 AM

btw, something i forgot to ask: its obvious that one cant "render" a wireframe but what do i do if i want to create a really high resoluted wireframe, for a mobius picture much larger than the screen? poser cant set the view to such size -Ede

Ede ( ) posted Thu, 06 April 2000 at 8:39 AM

PAN i am considering using Animation Master for my project, but i'm not sure how much work it will be to import my poser model blasphemy! :) -Ede

Corre ( ) posted Thu, 06 April 2000 at 8:47 AM

Try to render an animation to Image Files, with 2 frames (1 doesn't seem to work). When rendering an animation you can choose to use Current Display Settings, and still specify whatever size you want (animation setup). /Corre

Corre: Awsome idea! Man, is this place a think tank or what?

PANdaRUS ( ) posted Thu, 06 April 2000 at 9:01 AM

Well, I might be wrong here but it let's take a look at one of the "great" Mobius' works shall we? (leads class into main hall), If you do a search for "Lie Down" (one of my PERSONAL moby favorites) take a close look at the finger tips, if I am not mistaken the wireframe is not hi-rez in this image..but because the rest of the image/texture is you don't "pick" up on that lil' portion of the image. If you notice there are lil' "jaggy" lines that make up the wireframe. If it was a higher resolution this might not be the case. You can definitely enlarge the work window to the size of your full screen and export out the image that way but I agree there doesn't seem to be a way to export it at a higher resolution, at least that I'm aware of. Of course there are also "ways" of post working that into a higher rez...but I've no proper clue on that one. Anyone care to comment on this? I'm by far NOT the authority on this. Hope this helped a bit. PAN~ federation-21.com

PANdaRUS ( ) posted Thu, 06 April 2000 at 9:03 AM

Well geez..I hadn't counted on THAT idea...guess there IS a way...way to go Corre! PAN~

rolfi ( ) posted Thu, 06 April 2000 at 9:43 AM

Great Idea, corre, that really works ! Only feature, i'm still missing is: to apply a texture to that Wireframe ( i know, i'm always expecting the impossible :) )

PANdaRUS ( ) posted Thu, 06 April 2000 at 10:14 AM

Wait a minute? You want that too!? EGADS! IS there nothing that will stop you? Such creativity is unheard of! hehehe Hmm you could always try Rhino! It allows you to render fully textured objects WITH the wireframe showing...kinda cool.. :) PAN~

rolfi ( ) posted Thu, 06 April 2000 at 10:23 AM

hehe, thx, PAN :)

mobius ( ) posted Thu, 06 April 2000 at 1:59 PM

Well, PAN, I hate to dispute you...but, sadly you are wrong! This image was created using my "hi-res woman" model. I did actually render it in 3ds max (I think...my memory is goin you know). But the underlying mesh is definately the hi-res woman. You can still get her here: http://www.spaceports.com/~helend/Textures/Women/women_3.html mobius

PANdaRUS ( ) posted Thu, 06 April 2000 at 3:41 PM

Egads! Mobius tis dat you?! gulp So the mesh IS hi-res? Well powder ma lips and call me suzie! (well not in public at least) I thought you just used the poser mesh...guess the sad state of my office computer's video card is far worse than I thought! (you should see how bryce wire frames come out looking in my office UGGG!) Please accept my apologies... ;) Now I'm off to falsely accuse others of lo-rez imagery.... PAN~ federation-21.com

Interesting discussion--and glad to see you back Pan--you always did enliven a conversation LOL.

Nance ( ) posted Thu, 06 April 2000 at 8:07 PM

Another way to get hi-rez, with textures, transitions from wireframe to solid, and do it all within Poser is to adapt the figures UV template as a Transparency Map. render223_wireb.jpg & for those of you who have been here for a while, forgive me for linking this image once again, but its one of those subjects that just keeps comming up.
