Subject: Notice: Removed Free Stuff and Gallery

Lemurtek ( ) posted Mon, 04 November 2002 at 5:51 PM · edited Mon, 11 November 2024 at 11:35 PM

Hey all- Just want to state I've removed my free stuff and gallery, for those who care; yes, both of you! While Renderosity has mostly been a very positive experience for me, I just feel I had to make some small protest against the recent policies, and the way some of the vendors and users are being treated. You can of course, get all my Second Nature stuff at 3-DArena, and feel free to email me if you need to contact me about my Poser free stuff. Regards- Lemurtek

You'll be missed, Lemurtek. Your items are first rate. I hope there will come a time when all this will be resolved to everyone's satisfaction and you will be able to return. And I think there are more than two of us who are fans of yours.

Gorodin ( ) posted Mon, 04 November 2002 at 5:57 PM

Sorry to see you go. While your stuff was not something I was likely to use too often, I thought it was awful cute!

Mosca ( ) posted Mon, 04 November 2002 at 6:19 PM

Well, chalk up another one. How many is that? Five? Six?

Lemurtek ( ) posted Mon, 04 November 2002 at 8:04 PM

Thanks guys! Mosca: I have neither the intention nor the expectation of influencing anybody, whether members, merchants or administration. Whether their have been 5 or 50 or 500, 'defections', or if I were the only one, all I can speak to is my own reasons. I simply don't feel comfortable with the recent policy changes, and I especially don't like the manner in which they were implemented, and the way those who disagreed were treated. I don't intend to try and influence anybody else, or to cause disruption to Rendersosity, but neither can I support Rendoerosity, nor by doing so, implicitly lend my acceptance to their policy changes. Regards- Lemurtek

How many is that? Well, what exactly are we counting: - the number of merchants who have asked to have their Marketplace and products deleted?

  • the number of artists who are removing their free stuff?
  • the number of artists removing their gallery of images?
  • the number of customers who are following the artists to their new home? (This number will be harder to track.)
  • And, "double-counts" should go to everyone who threatened possible legal action if their items were not removed immediately (so as not to make any more money for Renderosity). So, who wants to keep track of the numbers? It's so easy that it's almost sad- just go down this forum and look for any thread that starts with "Clint, please remove my [store] [item] [gallery]" (sometimes it's in ALL CAPS).

"FYI you have to remove your free stuff and gallery yourself" ...unless you are banned from the site before being able to do so.

actually, I think the hurt will be felt by R'osity when people do not use the Content Paradise as they think it will be used... it will be a silent but hard felt situation as customers do not migrate to P5 as expected and do not use CP. Most people aren't going to delete their galleries nor are they going to leave Renderosity, they will probably still be shopping in the Marketplace too, just as they always have. Just they won't be using Content Paradise. As I have migrated more and more into being a Carrara 2 user anyway, I won't be shopping with CP either.

CyberStretch ( ) posted Tue, 05 November 2002 at 12:02 AM

Just a momentary side-track on CP: Anyone know if, when using CP, you have to become a member at the partners' site(s) in order to place a purchase? Just wondering if, say CP does succeed, consumers are going to be required to have their private info in several different places (controlled by several different companies/individuals) vs one central location.

bijouchat ( ) posted Tue, 05 November 2002 at 12:12 AM

I have no idea, but the security/privacy issues bother me a lot about CP. And I think this whole issue is boiling down to the introduction of CP anyway. Just nobody talks about it openly, and that's a shame. Not everyone here on Renderosity are Poser fanatics. I love Poser, but I am starting to just buy Poser content for use in Carrara now. So CP is useless for me. I'm just glad Eovia is working on V3 to be something even more amazing than V2.

Add one to the list, whoever's keeping it. I pulled my freebies and tutorials. Haven't gotten to my gallery yet - but there's a lot of gallery to pull.

**And, "double-counts" should go to everyone who threatened possible legal action if their items were not removed immediately ** Do I get a double count for doing it quietly via email instead of here??? ;P

Jumpstartme2 ( ) posted Tue, 05 November 2002 at 2:50 AM

Sad to say that although I like being here and have made many friends, I too have pulled my meek gallery until this thing either boils down or blows over. Im not going anywhere [I dont think ~lol~]and I hope this all works out in the end for the best..might I add for "ALL".. goes grumbling to herself to another thread to see what is over there now...

Well, I haven't pulled my weenie vanity gallery yet, nor the few freebies I've offered, and I don't have any plans to in the immediate future. I am however deeply concerned and am holding off on several items that I was planning to release to the MP. And if I do say so myself, they're pretty good items. What I see going on here distresses me because it's following an all-too-familiar business model: "strategic partnering"; aggressive control of customers use of services and products; maneuvering and manipulating the market to unfair advantage; not being satisfied with a slice of the pie; being unable to tolerate any other presence in the same market space. Sound familiar? I live in Seattle; I'm at ground zero of where this brand of business tactic began to grow out of control. I'm also a dot.com veteran. These developments here sadden me because I know that once a company has embraced the internal management paradigm that makes this behavior possible, it is irreversible. By the time the public is aware of these kinds of behaviors and policies they have become firmly entrenched in the company culture and, while there may be dissenters and good guys on board who disagree with the prosperity consciousness (read:greed) pervading the company, they are quickly and silently dealt with (I was one of these). Now, I know that the PTB on all sides of this arena - at all of the sites/software companies - are watching the forums here and I hope they will take this to heart: Dont be greedy. Play nice and there will be plenty of pie for everybody afterwards. Competition will make you better, dont eliminate it. Everyone has a right to earn a living. Nobody likes a tyrant. If you screw up enough, people will vote with their feet. As all honest women will tell you: Size Matters. If its too big it hurts; too small can be made up for in quality of performance. If you're unfaithful, they'll start shopping around, too.

bijouchat ( ) posted Tue, 05 November 2002 at 1:47 PM

yup size matters Hiram, how big are ya anyway ;-) all good points. I'm a dot com vet myself. Got the scars to prove it... deep scars, bitter bitter, but hey... my stocks are worth nothing, I'll go to my grave supporting my parents social security pensions, and I'll get nothing when I get to their age... ... and I'm still hanging in there ... lol Take down my gallery? Geez, why? I get a decent exposure here, its not my bandwidth anyway. I bought enough in the MP here to deserve that gallery space. Its staying there. :) (leech mentality: ON) see ya around when I'm around - love your work Hiram :)
