I have just finished reviewing the latest EULA changes from Curious Labs and it looks like we've all come to an agreement. I will post details as soon as the official final version is released. It's my opinion that this EULA not only alleviates the merchants concerns, but is a much stronger document for Curious Labs' protection as well. I'd like to thank everyone who made their concerns known along with the rest of us, DAZ for being willing to work things out, Penguinisto and the others who helped review it with Larry (he'll have to tell us who all he chose to have look at it) and Curious Labs. But most especially I'd like to thank Larry who spent several very long days going back and forth on the language. Kudos to you, Larry!!! _________________ Diane Thure Griffith DTHUREGRIF@aol.com www.animotions.com Create the adventure! www.renderotica.com Serving the adult graphics community.

Darn it, Doc, when I send you out to make trouble, I don't mean in MY threads!

Well this is good news, thanks to everyone on all sides who worked together to come to a solution that benefits all of us.

This is great news. all the dischord around here lately was starting to get to me. :)

Marque ( ) posted Wed, 06 November 2002 at 12:26 AM

Where is the new EULA? Marque

DTHUREGRIF ( ) posted Wed, 06 November 2002 at 12:44 AM

Marque, It still needs the final stamp of approval from CL. Probably be completely signed off on tomorrow.

DraX ( ) posted Wed, 06 November 2002 at 12:45 AM

It's not posted yet, but I'm hoping diane is correct about it. Thanks for the update :)

Scarab ( ) posted Wed, 06 November 2002 at 1:24 AM

...but is it only a coincidence that this is being released during the mid-term elections?...... Scarab<-the little gray guy with the big black almond shaped eyes who is now the governor of Arkansas, thank you very much.

DTHUREGRIF ( ) posted Wed, 06 November 2002 at 1:30 AM

The scary thing is, Scarab, who would notice?

DraX ( ) posted Wed, 06 November 2002 at 3:03 AM

Sigh..... too true.

Phantast ( ) posted Wed, 06 November 2002 at 5:00 AM

The question is still open as to whether the old one would have had any legal force if it had come in to court. Personally I think any self-respecting court of law would have thrown it out in derision.

Farside ( ) posted Wed, 06 November 2002 at 7:13 AM

does this mean Daz will begin producing material for P5?

morganah ( ) posted Wed, 06 November 2002 at 7:47 AM

Farside: I hope so! It was such a dissapointment to hear that they wouldn't have anything to do with P5.

a_super_hero ( ) posted Wed, 06 November 2002 at 8:27 AM

I would prefer if the two companies disagree. I believe competition helps people make better products. In the need to compete against other companies that popped up RNDA, renderosity, and others DAZ has offered a lot more items at lower prices. If both DAZ and CL were putting out 3d rendering programs, they would compete in offering the most ability, easiest to run, cheapest price, and other factors.

BAM ( ) posted Wed, 06 November 2002 at 8:48 AM

Sup, An agreement on the EULA does not necessarily mean that DAZ will abandon other efforts. In other threads with timeline information DAZ seems to have started their project before the EULA was passed around. All this agreement might do is allow DAZ to develop products that take advantage of new features in P5. Then again DAZ may choose to have nothing to do with P5 for other reasons.

Farside ( ) posted Wed, 06 November 2002 at 9:26 AM

I have no doubt Daz will continue to work on their own render program but for them to not continue supporting Poser would mean cutting their customer base by more than 50%. In just a year or two a majority of Poser users will be on Poser 5, for them not to support it wouldn't make business sense. It also would be disasterous for the entire community if the two programs couldn't share items interchangably. I know I couldn't afford both so I'd stick with what I have the most of.

The truth is out there....................................

pdxjims ( ) posted Wed, 06 November 2002 at 10:27 AM

I can't imagine Daz dropping their programming effort on a new product. They may redirect it some because of the Eula changes, but they have a big investment in it and they've been working on it most of this year. I'm waiting for Daz to start offering P5 Mike and Vicky content. Hair, morphs to allow fitting heads done in the face room to fit them, dynamic clothing. I know everything is settled when I see the first Daz produced P5 content for sale (hopefully in the Platinum Club, because I'm cheap). Wow! Maybe Vicky and Mike 3 will be fully P5 compatable!

Lapis ( ) posted Wed, 06 November 2002 at 2:36 PM

My wild speculation is that Daz will thrust their new software and a V3 on us real soon and that it will rock the poser world. Lay your bets down now folks, book mark this trhead and see whose wild speculations turn out to be right. Just so you have a little more to fuel your imagination, check out what Penguinisto had to say on the topic. Seems he took a little trip to DAZ and wrote about it in a thread over at Poser Pros called "Went down to Draper today". The thread can be found in the general topic area. Hurry, hurry, step right up and place your bets.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Wed, 06 November 2002 at 3:12 PM

Victoria 3 will likely be here "real soon", unless DAZ decides to take additional time to make her compatible with P5's Face Room.

I don't expect to see their posing/rendering software until sometime next year, at the earliest.

pdxjims ( ) posted Wed, 06 November 2002 at 3:16 PM

Little Dragon is never wrong. I'm just wondering when Mike 3 will be coming out.

sithgoblin ( ) posted Wed, 06 November 2002 at 4:20 PM

I'd rather they delay them and make them face room compatible. Though just cause the EULA is fixed doesn't mean CL and DAZ have agreed on a face room price :-(

DTHUREGRIF ( ) posted Thu, 07 November 2002 at 1:35 AM

No, sithgoblin, it doesn't. But the EULA needed to be worked out before negotiations could even begin on the face room. I think they'll be talking now.
