I have always loved the majestic beauty of whales, especially Orcas and bolted at the chance to use them. Thanx to whoever or wherever I got the whales and the boat. I think this one worked out really well. Everything was done in Bryce with just a tiny bit of Photoshop (very little). How did I do? Let me know...good and bad points please. Thanx. Have a good one all!

First of all your name makes me a bit queasy, I've had a few bad experiences with peppermint shnaps when I was much younger ;-) As for the image you might want to add some wakes to where the whales are surfacing.Without them it looks like they've been sitting in the same spot for a while. That's just a little something that bugs me about some Bryce renders I've seen.Water does flow around objects, I've seen a lot of stuff that looks like it was trapped in ice. Start with the smudge tool for the wakes and use dodge and burn for highlights and shadows. Keep experimenting, you have nothing to lose!

Alias: The trick when drinking schnapps is to drink pure Vodka. No flavours, that will only make you sick (trust me, I know =) The REALLY tricky thing is to know wheather or not to take that last one ("heh, if I'm having such a good time now, another schnapps would make it even more fun, wouldn't it?"... then, fade out...) =o) As for the picture, I think it looks great. I believe Alias is right about the wakes though. That's about the only think I could find that isn't right. Great job!

I think the boat should sink a little deeper into the water and scaled a bit bigger. At the moment it looks like a big toy boat.

Very nice. I agree that some ripples around the fins and hull would be the icing on the cake. Nice transparency to the water, BTW. As for improving, of course! And remember, not all improvements show up in the artwork. Several images down the road you'll use a technique you used before, in a different way, with better results. And unless you're selling, you are the best judge of what you did. If you like it, SO BE IT. If others do also, even better. Don't stop, and post the next one that you're proud of!

Okay I would love to work on this image some more, I want this one to be perfect (for me at least) Anyone have some ideas on how to do the wake around the wales and boat...as you can tell if you look close, I tried to add a little bit of movement and color changes around them, but can't seem to come up with a good technique for wake anyone have any good techniques for me to use? All replies are appreciated. Have a good one all! Schnaps

schnaps goes great with everclear after both have soaked into cherries for a while and this looks better than what i can do with the stuff, the artwork that is.

heya; try making wakes with a terrain. paint in a kind v-shaped irregular valley type deal... the put the water shader on it and drop it onto the water plane. you might need to lighten up the shader.

Personally, I prefer rootbeer schnapps, but any kind will do on a weekend. How about some cute bikini-clad babes on the boat checking out the whales? Just a thought.

I've really come to enjoy a good, single malt whiskey more nowadays, maybe with a dark ale along with it. Hrrrm, oh yes, this wasn't really about my drinking habits now, was it...? Sorry 'bout that =) I don't now, don't think any humans would do any good in this picture. I think it is almost perfect as it is, I like the lighting, the motive and the composition in it. running off to see what's left of the Glamorangie... =)
