"The Masons Lodge"

This is part of a project I'm dreaming up. I could use some ideas to tweak it a little.

Oh I love the walls and ceiling. So awesome. I'm having trouble figuring out what the blue line along the walls is? This is a great room so far. Ang

Beautiful work. Love the ceiling. Did you model it?

tomasball ( ) posted Sun, 10 November 2002 at 9:18 AM

The "Blue Line" is the cushion on the pew against the wall. I wonder what I could do to make that more obvious...

tomasball ( ) posted Sun, 10 November 2002 at 9:20 AM

I put the ceiling together in Simply 3d. I tried a similar thing in Bryce using booleans, but I just liked the result better here.

this is really great! to make the pew more obvious you might try making it a bt darker to stand out, or someting like that ^^ Very good piece so far!

Heckuva good job! I think for the pew you might have to resort to setting something on it, like a closed book. Also, I find the spotlight effect on the back wall a little distracting. One last little suggestion, for the dias. I think the podium/desk there might stand out a little more if it were a slightly different shade of wood than the wall behind it. Looking forward to the end result. Lin

Nice. Use a different colour for the cushion. Pure blue (RGB 255, 0, 0) is not good. Or you've set Ambience too high. And lower the Ambience on the floor.

I agree about the nice walls and ceiling. Nice textures and modelling. But it looks a little empty. maybe some people?

When I was in jury duty, I noticed that the room had 2 or more sets of lights. There were lights hanging from the ceiling and lights along the side of the room. Might want to try that, more dim lights. See how it looks. That should get rid of the light spot on the background. What is the purpose of this picture? In other words, what sort of feeling do you want to convey here? Are you going for a shot from "Better Lodges and Manors" or the court of the Spanish inquisition? If the desk is the focal point, I would make sure that it grabs the eye. Would change the color of the cushions on the pews to dark brown or dark red. The desk should be a bit brighter so it stands out more. Would also move the candles so they surround the desk on 3 sides, so the person reading the book has even light.

The ceiling and walls look great. Why are you hiding the star pattern beneath the desk? I'm certain that If you expanded it's size, it would add some great detail to the floor.

Excellent indoor scene. I think the blue line is a bit too ambient. One thing that works for a cushion on the pew and / or trimming at the bottom of the wall by the floor is to make a lattice and stretch the daylights out of it. Texture it with some sort of velvet texture. If you want, I can do a tut and put it up.

I think it needs a square and a compass........ The Bryster (Chris)

I feel wall sconces would eliminate the spot light on the back wall, the star on the floor looks great, might be a little bigger and move the desk halfway off of it. Is there a spot light behind the desk, because the shadows there seem to eminate from that point...candles don't put out that much light, even if the entire room was full of them, give the light a more golden warm glow, instead of the bright white.. Absolutely love the ceiling and walls!

Thanks for all the comments. I'm incorporating most of them, and as soon as I get the lighting issue worked out, I'll post it in the gallery. Looks like it will take overnight to render. Some things, like the positions of some furniture, have to stay as they are for purposes of authenticity.

This will be part of an interactive walkthrough of a typical lodgeroom.

Meanwhile, here's another angle on the room. Sorry about the reflections, I'll get it all ironed out eventually

A walkthrough! How neat. You are really doing a great job. Lin

Looks great. How did you do the stuff at the top of the columns below the globes? Metaballs? Booleans?

tomasball ( ) posted Tue, 12 November 2002 at 1:34 PM

I also modelled those in Simply 3d
