Subject: Morph Manager 5?

Vially ( ) posted Sun, 17 November 2002 at 8:08 PM · edited Mon, 02 December 2024 at 7:37 AM

Greetings one and all, There is no Morph Manger 5 that I am aware of... But if there was here's a wishlist for it. It would export Morphs as OBJ files from the Dina V model. ----I know it says it does, but mine locks up every time, ----no message, no warning, it just stops responding. It would have some kind of indication that it was "working". ----A progress bar maybe? Other than that I'm very happy with it. Now if anyone knows how to export morphs from Dina while we wait for MM5, id be very grateful to know. Thanks, Vially

Thanks. I'm working on MM 6. It won't be ready till Jan but I'll try and test as much as possible.

Compose 1.1 freezes with Dina for me also. Poser export may be your only option.

I have MM4 and Dina so I tried this just for the heck of it. I loaded the Dina cr2 (this is the Dina 1.2, the most recent ver. I think) then loaded the Dina obj file. I selected a morph target and hit export. The file exported. I opened Poser, loaded Dina and applied the exported obj as a morph and it seems to works fine. Loading the Dina obj takes a long time. I just let it run and did something else for a while so I don't know how long it took. While loading I think the dialog was blank which led me to believe it might be hung. Exporting the obj morph takes roughly 15-20 seconds. The dialog may have blanked here as well, I don't remember. I'm running Poser 4.03, Windows 2K Pro SP2, 1GHz Athlon (old Slot A) and 256MB memory. Perhaps the problem is just the lengthy processing. Try letting it run for a while.

Oops, I just re-read your post Vially and saw that you referred to Dina V. I have only the original Dina so there may indeed be a problem with MM4 and Dina V. My bad :-)

Dina V and Dina are the same model. The V is an initial, not a version number. :-) I haven't tried Morph Manager with Dina because I'm on a Mac and I have a PC, but generally have a lot of trouble with Morph Manager. lmckenzie may be right. It may just take a while. I know that I can move morphs with MartinC's Maconstructor just fine on Dina.

Oh boy. It's late. If that isn't clear, I mean I generally work on my Mac, not my PC. :-)

Mason, si that you Mr._X? I spoke with him a few weeks back, and convinced him to add some pretty serious additions to the next issue of MM. It should be able to load multiple cr2s, .objs, and.pz3s into a destination target at once! I ca'nt wait! It may also be able to do these by reading through compression archives, Woohoo! = )

Note to Mason: Guy, you've done a LOT for us all. Morphmanager 4.0 is one of the best utilities for Poser, if not THE BEST, there is. Do us all a favor and add some things to your wish list so we can show a little appreciation. After all, Christmas and Hanakah are just around the corner. People, this is a good time to remind you that when you have a little extra cash, a gift to freestuff providers is a VERY good thing. They work their butts off and actually share their work. If you've gotten something for free that you really like, and can afford it, check their wishlist and get them a little something. If cash is tight, a pat on the back lets them know how much their appreciated too. These people ROCK!

pdxjims - Actually what I plan to do with MM6 once its stable is to offer it in the renderosity store as a donation item. It'll be free but if people want to buy a donation of like $5 that would be appreciated. Thanks for the offer.

Not sure if It's "Just" Dina V or a later version of her or what. I've tested it a few different way, mostly once exporting it just sits there, with that little blank popup. I've attempted to let it sit. I let it sit for 5 hours once, no go for that either. What I do get, is when I click on anything (after a while of waiting) a windows message will come up saying "this program has stopped responding" then prompt to close it. That's it. BTW, I want to note this is ONLY on exporting morphs to OBJ. when attempting to copy a morph from one Dina based character to another it works without a hitch at all. And if it wasn't appearant before I'll say it now, again, I am VERY happy with MM. This is a Minor bug as far as I'm concerned. takes longer than just applying the morphs desired to a given new model, but they can be transferred from an original.

I never got the obj loader to work quite right with all the exceptions in the obj file ie having neg indices for vert references etc. I'll see if the Dina V maker would lend me a part f the mesh to try.

DTHUREGRIF, I was thinking of "Vina D?," I believe, the version which was altered to wear Vicky's clothing. I tried the process again. The first time, it crashed during the "adjusting faces" dialog of the obj import. I closed MS Outlook which I had open and tried again. This time I was able to successfully import the Dina obj and export a morph obj file. It appears they may be a memory issue or some other quirk but it did work correctly 2 out of 3 times so it's not impossible. Vially, what OS are you running and how much memory do you have? Windows 98 (and probably ME) definitely have problems with memory management. You might try the freeware Cacheman utility (link) and also try running MM after a clean boot with as few other programs/background utilities running as possible. If it is a memory issue, that might help.

Win200w/ 512 RAM I've done the clean boot thing, even to the point of shutting down a few "required" system resources. same effect, just does nothing. Like I said I can transfer Morphs frrom one Dina V to another, it just takes longer :)

Stumps me then, unless there is more than one release version of MM4. Mine is 364KB Version number in file properties is 4.0.0.0, created 1/1/2001. The only other thing I can think of is make sure you have the Dina version 1.2 update. My Dina obj is 11,656KB. We're running the same OS (don't know about service pack) and you have twice as much memory so... Hopefully the next version of MM will fix it for you.

Only difference I can see is the release date. MM is the same size, and version number is the same, but mine says 2000. Dina is a little larger than your listing, coming in at 11,934,954 bytes (11.3Meg). I recall an update that Included the shoulder fix (released after teh shoulder fix release) and that's the one I'm on. Anyway, thanks for all the help, Oh Win2K SP is 3. We'll just continue along and hope the next MM does fix it.
