Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 08 12:39 am)
That's not bad, cpharrboy, but another 256 or 512MB wouldn't hurt. What's your processor and its speed?
C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the
foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg
off.

I've got 512 DDR with AMD 1700+ and all seems well on XP Pro. Make sure you don't have a lot of stuff running in the background. Although that's probably obvious, someone asked a similar question about a month ago and provided a screen shot. They had about 10 applications running in the background. You might also try setting your virtual memory to 1.5 times your RAM.
If its not running well on YOUR system I'm surprised. If you have an Nvidia graphics card you can change the Direct 3D Mipmap detail level to "High Performance" rather then "Best image quality". That should give you an increase in your ability to scroll around on the screen, without much difference in image quality. If you go one step further to "Best performace" you'll notice a drop in preview image quality, but your full renders should look the same. All Nvidia cards have this option under Control Panel--->Display---->Advanced---->Name of video Card---->Additional propertys----->Direct 3d Settings... Whew!

Does anyone know of any tricks or tweaks to improve the performance of Poser? I upgraded to WinXP pro hoping that would help but it only helped slightly. I guess that was due to WinXPs better memory management........
