Subject: My recent thread... Moved?

I was curious as to how my thread, which was directly related to Poser (content paradise) was moved to Off Topic? Did the mod that moved it even read it? And if possible, since I'm pretty sure I'll get the "It's not a learning thread" response, could you please move the Freestuff conversations and a few others that aren't about learning the program to OT. I think that would leave maybe a quarter of the threads. I know it would be a lot of work, but it's only fair. Thanks :) Tom

No clue, however I'm not getting any of the ebots lately as to wether a thread is replied to or not. Completely unrelated I know :) still counting the minutes Tom

No bets, Spirit. It's off topic for Forum News and Team Contracts. It's not a learning thread...

So now we're approaching 3 hours and no response. Yet it took them like 10 minutes to move my thread to OT in the first case. I swear it's like kids with selective hearing. Nice quote there IronBear. Tom

AgentSmith ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 2:09 AM

No response? To what? Did you I.M. a mod? Or is this thread your only submitted question? (Hey, just wondering) Maybe...directly I.M. the Poser mod's? Ask them why? I can't speak for other moved posts or the Poser forum, but I can see why it was moved. No offense, but it was literally off topic. (Not that the subject wasn't slightly/kinda interesting). MadYuri ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 4:54 AM

Its all a question of definition.

So... can the mods/admins please post a definition of 'off topic'?

Just now I see no consistence in the way this term is used at Renderosity. I think this is probably because I have only a feeble grasp on the english language.
If we know what 'off topic' means we can help the mods and post the relevant threads in the OT forum right away.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 5:45 AM

Virtual Alchemy, that the post in question, right? Assumming so here's my take: *It didn't have anything to do with the program Poser. *I haven't found, so far, any relation it bears to Curious Labs. *It has nothing to do with Renderosity. So now...right there, I myself would have moved it out of my forum. Now, I realize it has to do with a website (Content Paradise), that deals in Poser related items. That which might hold interest to some Poser members. But, really...come on, it's celebrity gossip at best. An offsite merchant...has a partner...that is selling Adult domains? So? Getting off the computer and eating my steak was FAR more important to me than all that. But, hey that's just me, lol. The Poser forum reminds me of those "emergency room" reality shows...fast-paced and bloody, lol. I can see why the mod's need to try and keep it...optimized. It's high volume and full of Poser passionate members. I don't envy the Poser mod's, but I do understand why they moved the post. Solution?... Poser really is the biggest program used around here, next to Bryce. Why not suggest a Poser specific off topic forum? If any program needed it, it's Poser. AgentSmith

"Now, I realize it has to do with a website (Content Paradise), that deals in Poser related items. " ahem Sorry AgentSmith: Content Paradise is a purchasing portal built into Poser 5 - has everything to do with Poser on that score. Content Paradise and Poser 5 are owned by Curious Labs and EGIsys: owners of CuriousLabs. Has direct relation to CL and Poser. Renderosity is partnered with Curious Labs, and an affiliate with Content Paradise - has something to do with Renderosity and their affiliations. Currently since Renderosity is one of the main CP partners with "premiere placement", it holds interest of a lot of poser members. ;]

depakotez ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 6:14 AM

Agent Smith (Or Whoever it concerns ;) ), Actually it is directly related to poser, as that "merchant" Content Paradise is part of Poser 5. Built into the software. That 'store' which is built into the software has a terms of service, which are pratically a copy of 'rosity's. Those terms of service include no direct linking to adult websites. Their link for their new partner is adult... So to recap *It didn't have anything to do with the program Poser. Content Paradise is a search feature for different stores and ran on Renderosity software. In effect a front end for renderosity at this time. Regardles of that, it is built into Poser 5. I would say that has to do with the program just as much as the thread about the 'loft', or the heads up about freestuff culling. *I haven't found, so far, any relation it bears to Curious Labs. This is pretty simple, recap point 1. The Content Paradise is Curious Labs/Renderosity. At the least Curious Labs has directly posted a link to adult related material against their own terms of service. *It has nothing to do with Renderosity. Ignoring the partnership with Curious Labs for the moment, perhaps the original post didn't have much flavor of Renderosity. Neither do a multitude of threads about people's favorite shows or other off site merchants. Agent Smith, I can understand that you aren't fully a poser person. I also appreciate a response to this. However, it has more a right there than other off topic threads. As this one actually is about the program; Content Paradise is built into Poser. My thread was an attempt merely to point out the hypocrasy of CL and their violating their own terms of service. I will be happy to message the Poser Forum mods/admins concerning this. As I had not before, if that is the action you would prefer me take. However in the mean time I would like to see these non "poser" related threads moved from the forum; according to your definition. I have only looked back 24 hours. Though I'm sure if you (Meaning Admin/Mod) would like you can find many many more. However, many are obviously more Off Topic than mine. Since it wasn't according to AgentSmith's own definition of it. Normally I wouldn't be so fired up. It's just as I've probably said a hundred times already... My post was more 'on topic' about Poser and CL (some rosity) than many many others. Let alone some of the extreme examples I just posted. Why move mine and not theres? The subject.. perhaps, if that's the case I'd be happy to post it under a different subject. Just let me know :) Thank you, Tom

It has nothing to do with Renderosity then none of these threads should be in the Poser Forum but they all are. And I just included some of the larger threads - there were plenty more to choose from. Sorry - your whole theory just sinks by itself. Why these types of threads like depakotez's are moved is anyones guess. But I do think that some of the Mods get pretty gung-ho when it comes to threads that are seen to be either negatively geared at Poser5 or CL/CS and move them off pronto. Then they just close their eyes and hope the whole situation just blows away.

I can see your point(s) a LOT more clearly now. I definetly would contact the mod's and talk to them about your grief. Either way, it is their call, not mine. guarie, my theory sinks cause I'm just not versed in Poser 5, lol. So, never say you guys haven't read a Mod say this..."I was wrong" (about my take on the situation). Enjoy it while you can, lol. AgentSmith

I installed mine on a freshly formatted computer with win 2k installed the patch, and I have had ZERO issues from the program. other then the fact that some of the things I want to render my poor little 800 PIII just cant handle with only 384 Megs of ram, hehe. But thats my computers problem not the software.

mabfairyqueen ( ) posted Mon, 18 November 2002 at 9:58 AM

I'm trying to purchase the upgrade to poser5 and I'm having the darndest time trying to get CL to respond to my emails about shipping arrangements. They'll send a response once and I'll reply and then I'll never hear from them again. I said I'd buy the P5 license, bugs and all, if they fixed the EULA to my satisfaction and they did fix the EULA to the satifaction of myself and many others. I'm bound by my word, but it makes it rather difficult to keep my word if they won't get back with me to work out my shipping arrangement issues. Grrrrrr.

Lapis ( ) posted Mon, 18 November 2002 at 10:02 AM

You may have an easier time buying Xena's copy. I believe Xena is trying to sell a copy over at Poser Pros. Something about finding it to much of a hassel to deal with the quirks and bugs.

mabfairyqueen ( ) posted Mon, 18 November 2002 at 10:06 AM

Lapis ( ) posted Mon, 18 November 2002 at 10:13 AM

Have you heard much about the upcomming DAZ software? According to several first hand accounts, it is very much beyond current poser capabilities; leaps and bounds beyond. Just curious what you've heard.

Mosca ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 1:17 AM

Any thread that is in any way controversial is, by definition, OT in the Poser forum. This is especially true if it raises issues about R'osity or its business partners. I hear the upcoming DAZ software has the power to heal the sick and feed the hungry. Price will be an issue, though.

MadYuri ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 2:05 AM

Mosca > I hear the upcoming DAZ software has the power to heal the sick and feed the hungry. Price will be an issue, though.

Who cares about the sick and hungry? The question is: does the DAZ SW have working multiprocessor and OpenGL support? Can I export my people to C4D? And price is not an issure, if it works I will buy it...

Lapis ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 2:50 AM

"if it works I will buy it..." Sign me up. But I have to say I won't be the first to buy it. Once bitten, twice shy.

MadYuri ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 4:01 AM

Thats why I said: "if it works..." I will wait till the thing is extensively tested by other people. ;)

Lapis ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 4:05 AM

Did you jump in like me and get Poser 5 right out of the gate? I will never do that with software ever again. If I had waited and seen the posts in poser forum and the beta forum I'd still be holding off. The first accounts of the DAZ software are a big tease. It'll be real interesing.

mabfairyqueen ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 7:30 AM

I know that they are taking the beta testing and community concerns very seriously and that it's going to be a really good program, worthy of attention, but that's all I know.

MadYuri ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 8:28 AM

I ordered P5 pre-release. But I got it a month later then US people because I'm in Germany and the Irishman took his sweet time to deliver it.
sigh Maybe I should have canceled my order as I saw that the others had problems...

depakotez ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 11:58 AM

Mab > "and that it's going to be a really good program" Yeah but why sell something if it isn't? I mean those of us that bought it have paid for a closed beta. Where is that fair? 2 out of 5 "release canidates" so far have had such issues that they have either released it fixed or a second beta the same day. Now people are having trouble with texture files etc. It would have helped if things had been delivered as promised. Any idea what it means that P5 is now less expensive than P4? Hmmm.... Tom

Ironbear ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 12:30 PM

Ah.. Tom? I think that Mab may have been reffering to the potential Daz app, not P5. 'Twas the post order that made it look P5'd in context.

Mosca ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 8:05 PM

" Yeah the DAZ app is going to rock" Does anybody know anything about it? All I've heard is how great it's going to be, but not anything about how it works. Is it a replacement for Poser, or an add-on render engine, or what?

mabfairyqueen ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 8:20 PM

I think Daz is going to be telling us about it very soon.

CyberStretch ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 8:41 PM

Lapis ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 9:02 PM

Cyber, you mean a free public beta testing period, oh my, what a concept. Do you think it could catch on? Check out what some have had to say about their eyes on look at the program at Poser Pros. Penguinisto started a thread called "Went Down to Draper" or something like that. If the DAZ program even works I'll be happy. Trouble is this little P5 cd is kinda small for a frisbee. I'll think of something.
