Check this link otu. Doesnt this look like poser characters for sale? Seems kinda fishy....

Looks like posette & dork with the famous plastic hair

StormyGal ( ) posted Wed, 27 November 2002 at 6:05 PM

Yup that's them alright

atthisstage ( ) posted Wed, 27 November 2002 at 6:23 PM

Well, I can you this: that ain't the dork. The shoulders are different (this one is missing the famous shoulder wrinkle), and the lower abdomen is different. The woman isn't right either: her proportions are more streamlined than Posette, more angular. The hair is close to the regular plastic hair, but nope, unless the artist did a job on the original obj mesh.

definitely POSER 4 standard characters... you should contact CuriousLabs / Zygote.

Wow, I can't remember how much Mike and Vicki were, but for that price I think I'd go for the millineum characters. Kevin

queri ( ) posted Wed, 27 November 2002 at 7:24 PM

Looks like these were built from Poser standard characters and they cleaned up the shoulders and some other parts. he faces are the same. Still a nono. Emily

Poppi ( ) posted Wed, 27 November 2002 at 7:52 PM

okay...i ordered them. let's see what proceeds. how blatant. they are just the old p4 folks with a couple of morphs.

MoonRose ( ) posted Wed, 27 November 2002 at 8:04 PM

hiya.. this is kinda the same... i ran into this site and didn't know what to do about it http://www.3d02.com/model.asp?lstLib=9

Crescent ( ) posted Wed, 27 November 2002 at 10:56 PM

The fem hair is definitely Poser. I'm not entirely sure about the figures. It looks like they might have taken the P4 figures and played with them a bit - making them look worse.

rodzilla ( ) posted Wed, 27 November 2002 at 11:45 PM

nothing here is "Definately from poser" these are definately from zygote and look a little off because they probably predate the p4 meshes, more likely poser 3 or before,timewise...you guys do know that zygote has and does sell these models and in a multitude of ways too right??these look to be cut for lowpoly type animation,in any program EXCEPT poser...

MoonRose I agree that a lot of the models on that site are Poser/Zygote people as well. Most of them have been slightly altered but their heritage is clear. Now what to do about that?

Doesn't cooler work for Daz sniffing out these kinds of things? Maybe send him a message.

cooler ( ) posted Thu, 28 November 2002 at 7:44 AM

Chailynne, I appreciate the thought but the 3d02 site is already under investigation. They were notified over a month ago, via the hosting service, that there was infringing material for sale, but no action was taken. So I turned things over to the Thai Department of Intellectual Property & because the models are being offered for sale, they are investigating the matter for possible criminal prosecution. Just as an aside, Thailand is trying very hard to 'clean up it's act' & has increased monetary fines 1000% and for cases of 'willful infringement' the minimum jail term is now 4 years.

The meshes have been modified, badly, but mostly in the body. Anybody with half an eye can see the Dork's skull behind that jaw... and Posette stands out at any angle. I've IM'd Nosferatu. It doesn't matter how much of the mesh has been taken, or far morphed from the standard, or how many conversion programs those poor figures have had to jump through... if they were Poser figures originally, their heritage will show under analysis, and any such taking is wrong. Looking at the figures again, it looks like the culprit is guilty of mutilation and uglification, as well. Carolly

MaterialForge ( ) posted Thu, 28 November 2002 at 12:58 PM

It's definitely Posette's head and hair, but the body isn't right - it's a bit too blocky. They could have unsmoothed the model in a modeling app though. I'd report it, that's just wrong.

Lyrra ( ) posted Thu, 28 November 2002 at 3:55 PM

Well it looks like the official people are on the trail - lets hope things work out. crosses fingers BTW when you guys do see somehting that appears to infrings on DAZ(zygote)'s meshes - report it to DAZ - not here. That way they can start looking into it as soon as possible. Thanks! Lyrra

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Fri, 29 November 2002 at 1:09 AM

But Lyrra, sometimes you post it here just to get other peoples opinion - and attention. I mean you might be in doubt whether this og that mesh is Mike or not so more eyes to spot it out is good, before you rush our and accuse anybody of theft. And when more than one peep has agreed to a particular mesh being DAZ/Zygote, THEN it's the time to alert them. imo.

Lyrra, Another point... how many innocent, hard-working, trusting artists bought AMY before it was pointed out publicly in these Forums that there was stolen mesh involved in her creation? Without publicity more people would lose money purchasing items they could not in good conscience use once the truth came out later, often much later if matters are being investigated for months before action is taken. I would rather that we have hesitation and caution and confirming opinions. Theft affects all of us as users of this program and these models and is a relevant subject here. If a site or an uploader is suspect, shouldn't we know? Carolly

Lyrra ( ) posted Fri, 29 November 2002 at 2:53 PM

BUT there have been several times when the accusation was entirely wrong, and damaged the public view of the modeler/site in question. A certain amount of public knowledge yes, but there's no reason to witchhunt (as I see entirelt too often).
