  1. Check all the cables, make sure they are all in properly. 2. Listen for beeps. 3. Listen for disk activity. If your computer has had its last boot, my condolences.

Whats happening when you switch the PC on, any sound, are the fans running? If you can be a bit more specific I could help you maybe.

If nothing happens when you switch the comp on, might be nothing more than a dead power supply. Or even a broken switch.

Worked with pcs for years but this close to christmas limits my ability to buy replacements. Monitor works fine on the old celeron i moved over. Cant test card until i take a drive to work as celeron has no agp. All else appears to be powered, the haha 4 harddrives run as does the cdrom but cant tell if it stops at some point. Did see this funny no payment for 6 months thing haha in the local computer magazine... full sized local store, not some scam place that ummmmm ive pondered for last 15 mins. But back to the system at hand... im guessing motherboard.... which is not a expensive problem though a pain near christmas... hmmm no pay... hmmmm could that be dual athalon??? hmmmm no i better not think that way haha as my furniture has to be payed off in about 8 months on a 1 year dont pay deal. Waiiiitt... im thinking about it again.

haha get to the point. Take all cards out and try basic setup, then add pc cards one at a time.

ttops ( ) posted Fri, 29 November 2002 at 8:35 PM

Once you have removed every card and left the system with RAM, CPU, HDD and VGA; reset the board and power it. If it works; bingo, if not; remove all.. and power the MB on its own, any beeps? The board might be fine. Since you have a second system in the house you could try using it's PSU to see if it makes any difference...

The first thing I would suspect is the CPU... are you an over-clocker? If so, you might know the answer.

fried memory(even if it doesn't beep) can halt/boot with a powered down color on the monitor light.

Erlik ( ) posted Sat, 30 November 2002 at 2:00 AM

It still can be a card, but the 4 disks, CD, graphic card and so on lead me to suspect that the problem might really be the poser supply. Though if it was inadequate, it would have showed up already. Have you added something of the power-needing kind recently? Like a new disk or something.

Doubt its the power supply as its a 650w high end one but ill do a memory swap before heading to work with the video card.
