Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 09 3:46 am)
I have a real bad feeling about this. Why would anyone spend a lot of money on software they have no idea what to do with?

Ok, good point. Maybe I'm too cynical. But, I'll bet you anything you care to name that most everyone will tell you the same thing - read the manual, read as many tutorials, learn the basics yourself, then come back and ask questions. People here are generally friendly and helpful, but nobody - and that includes me - can see the point it telling you how to use the software when the instructions are in the manual. Most places wouldn't even be so polite about it, either. You'd either get a picture of a racing car or "RTFM" for an answer.

yeah i understand i had thesame with photoshop, but some nice people helped me there, like 10 or so, so i thought why not try it again with this program, but i think it's different now, dif forum etc, btw why you guys not getting an invision board forum? i could create that? much better then this! btw any dutch guy who wants to help?
Which version of Poser do you have? The best advice I could give you is to read these threads. People ask questions all the time, and many times responses include links to tutorials. Also, don't be afraid to just jump in and get your feet wet. I learned everything I know about Poser just from experimentation. I found the manual to be almost totally useless. It's riddled with missing information and typos. It will sometimes tell you that you can do something, but the instructions to do it are either sketchy and incoherent or completely missing. Just start clicking on things in the program and explore and discover. You'll be amazed at the things you can learn just by trying things. Also, there is a plethora of free downloads and goodies to use in Poser to create your scenes. Have fun and welcome to Poser Addiction! :) Melanie
at least your trying to help me out, maybe some one of you can, cause i'm now learning the beginnings of it etc, but i saw something like putting your own face on the guy etc! It's the only tut i have now: http://www.cakeone.com/c1%20pages/Tut%20Face.htm But how to get the thing for photoshop to put the face in?
WOE is you :) Start by looking at the Poser gallery here...take a good look at some of the images...see what can be done... Use your imagination, your creativity, and get this burning desire to create a masterpiece to wow all of us :) THEN....fire up Poser.... read the manual as has been stated several times...believe it or not, most of us here have had to do this step... LEARN the basic moves, how to manipulate the program, etc... BE PATIENT....then start twiddling and experimenting, expanding your knowledge as you go....check the manual for specifics....check here and other Poser related sites for tutorials on functions that seem they need further explanation. THEN...ask plenty of questions here...before you know it, you will be a pro :)

Oh...WOE... Putting faces on the model is actually a bit advanced...better to figure out how the program works, how to manipulate the character, morphing, using the dials, etc...the menu functions... Read about how to save your work...how to save your jpg....

And when you have a question, check the "FAQ" at the top of the forum page first, then click on "Search" and try typing in some key words that relate to your question---most of the questions you're going to come up with have probably been asked many, many times and you can see how they were answered by a lot of different people right away, without having to post it yourself. If you still need help after trying those two things, you'll at least be able to be more specific when you do post your own question. That will result in much more useful answers! People here will help you gladly, but only if you have read the manual and know enough about Poser to ask the right questions. The manual is far from perfect, but it will get you started. Just follow the instructions step by step.

Woe, I have a whole stack of tutorials at Nerd3D. You'll probably need to play with Poser for a while before you figure out what you really want to do. Poser is pretty powerful right out of the box, but all the freebies here really unleash it. http://www.nerd3d.com/Tutorial/Tutorials.htm [![ngsmall02.gif](http://www.nerd3d.com/Banners/ngsmall02.gif)](http://www.nerd3d.com)To save it as a jpg... First, render the image. If you render the image in the main window, then, once it is rendered completely, click file -> export -> image ... A dialog box will pop up. Towards the bottom there will be a part that says "Save As Type..." and a drop down where you can select what you want to save it as. If you render in a new window... just go to file -> save as ... You'll get a very similar dialog box to the one I mentioned first - with the "Save As Type..." selection menu. Once you get that, all you have to do is a pick a name for it, and where you want it saved. Hope that helps.
Ron Knights had a great collection of tutorials, too, but I don't know whatever became of him. Maybe someone here has the URL for his site. Rather than reading the manual cover-to-cover, it's probably better to just look up specific things in it. I tried to read the whole thing and got nowhere with it. I think what you're looking for as far as the face thing, is the texture map. It depends on which character you're using, too. If you're using the Poser 4 stock figures (Dork and Posette), it's a bit harder, because their texture maps are pretty small, an all in one piece. If you're using the Millennium figures from DAZ, the heads are separate and very large, which makes it easier to place the image of your face on the template, however, just putting the pace on the texture map isn't enough. If you want it to really look like you, you have to manipulate the dials to achieve a facial structure that basically matches your own. That's the hardest part. Several people have done it with some success, but it takes a lot of work. Looking forward to seeing some of your creations. Melanie
