also..check out a few posts before yours...the new patch is almost here... they are taking out the security codes and stuff as well...a great big step in the right direction. Just to answer your question a bit more about the bugs...the program is really starting to shape up...and for me to say that, just read some of my other posts concerning P5 :)

See the post a bit earlier today that Dave-So refers to. The release of the SR2.1 tomorrow should be good. I'm running the latest SR2 beta (6) and there are very few problems. It's very stable, and I am very pleased with my purchase. I'll likely uninstall P4 soon becuase I'm using P5 all the time now.
Poser 5 has hair you can grow and clothing which drapes, as well as effects of wind, gravity, and atmosphere... so it takes a heftier machine than P4 (lots of memory is critical!). I just got it (hooray, hooray!), and will put it on my frankenbox rather than the older prebuilt machine (more power, more memory, better video card). With the finalized SR2, it ought to be stable enough, even on a cobbled together machine. Everybody else has played with textures (see what Traveler has done over at RDNA) or foggy lights or dresses swirling from hip to floor(various posts here) ... I can hardly wait. :) Carolly
Wait a couple of days before deciding. The new patch, which is not beta, is supposed to remove a lot of problems. However, it wasn't run through the beta tests we've been doing here at the 'sity. The big thing is that the new patch removes all the complicated security code that was in itself causing stability problems. If there's something wrong with it, you'll see a ton of posts here complaining. If it's good, you'll see a lot more P5 renders and products start appearing. P5 has a ton of new features, and I think it makes it the upgrade worthwhile, but until I install and use the new release I can't make any real recommendations. There's no expected release date or even quarter for Daz Studio. No pricing information. Only 2 screen prints I've seen. It is supposed to use OpenGL archetecture which is a very good thing. P5 doesn't. It's better to err on the side of caution...
good idea...to err on the side of caution. I checked and the DL is not there yet...those out west folks get to sleep later than us out here :) But..I will dl the SR2.1 patch asap...and you will hear from me for sure how it is.... however, I would not have reservations of anyone buying it now...my P5 experience has improved from nothing works to almost all works, using SR2beta5, with an occasional hiccup...and hopefully this newest patch will take care of those. I have to say I had more problems with P4 than what I currently do with Poser 5...and the added features, and for me one of the biggest is READABLE dials and stuff. So have the cash ready to roll....

No kidding on the readable dials! And the new library structure, and no crosstalk. To me, that was enough to warrent the upgrade price. My problems have gotten a lot better since SR2B5 too. Still not quite there yet, but a great improvement. I think that by removing the security code things will improve a lot. I know the footprint of the program should shrink, and it should load faster. I'm hoping the calculation speed will improve too.
Wait until after the new year to order it. If CL continues their business practice, we may see more price drops (and a more finished product):
Talent103, I wouldn't look for Daz Studio anytime soon. The pics posted here on 'rosity a few weeks ago were from the ALPHA version. I'm sure that it will be great, but I wouldn't count on it replacing Poser, like many here seem to claim. Poser 5 is a great program, I've been extremely pleased with it. Don't let other people run you off. 5's worth it, just keep in mind that it's not going to cook your breakfast and mow your lawn for you, and you'll probably not be disappointed.
As for Daz Studio, it will pose and render-- What and How Well or How Fast and When we do not know. Will it work with scenes? We do not know. Will it work with anything outside od Daz products, probably, but we do not know nor do we know in what form. Will we be able to take a Pz3 into it? I seriously doubt it, but honestly, we don't know. If Dave-so says Poser 5 is worth it, believe him, he went through hell for this program. Emily
Speaking of DAZ and Poser 5, has anyone else noticed this from DAZ's FAQ? I'm looking forward to DAZ created products for Poser 5 plus Victoria 3 products are now listed as coming soon. Does DAZ support Poser5 and Poser5 specific products? Yes. Due to the changes that Curiouslabs, Inc. made to the Poser 5 End User License Agreement (EULA), DAZ is now happy to support Poser5 and product developed specificly for use within Poser5.
For what it's worth, I own P5 and pretty much only use it to test P5 products for Poserpros.com. I know many people think it's all hunky dory since the service releases are out. As far as I'm concerned, when and only when it will do everything it says it will on the box in a workable manner and not crash or throw errors, I'll recommend it. Until that time, I'd say hang onto your money. It will probably be alot cheaper in the near future. I wish I had been more prudent myself. It will be awesome once it can do all the stuff it says on the box.
