Subject: Help needed with downloads!

For reasons best known to itself, my Windows XP has decided to change the way I download files. When I click on a download button in Freestuff or my MP purchases list, I no longer have an option to choose a destination folder; the damn thing starts to download immediately to the Temporary folder. All well and good, but for some reason my online purchases aren't showing up in there, even though the free ones are. Weird, huh? Anyhow, can anyone tell me how I can make the downloads allow me to choose a folder instead of just taking off on their own merry little way?

I had this happen before and got help here. Try this. Go to the My Computer Folder, (or maybr any folder) Select the TOOLS Menu Select Folder Options Select File Types Scroll down to ZIP file types and select it Click on the Advanced button Put a check in the box that says 'Confirm open after download" That worked for me. Thank you! It worked perfectly. I owe you a beer or two, should our paths ever cross.

Unseen Automatic Updates during web connection time is the new way of MS products. Less user controle and more MS control over the processes going on in your computer. Isn't bill gates sooo sweet? I've read articls on that at ZDNET and other known tech news sites. It's a good bet that other odd changes are likely to continue to pop up on peoples computers that they didn't ask for in the future.

When my Win2k sp2 is no longer compatable with anything I'm prepared to end my use of computers altogether. It was a very hard decision. But it's one I've made and commited to.

I've gotten all the automatic updates and nothing has happened to me. I find it very convenient. But that's good info to know, just in case!

I havent a problem with that although I am running ie 6.0 by udating this may cure the problem, I believe Spit is correct.

Thank you! I had this happen on one machine and was able to change it back, but now with my new machine with WINXP, I couldn't remember what I had done the first time. Diane
