Subject: making an invisible item come back

AliasAngel ( ) posted Mon, 09 December 2002 at 6:13 PM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 5:35 AM

Okay, so silly me went and made some of the stuff in my scene invisible, and now I can't select it to make it visible again. A little help please? Thanks.

go to window > hierachy editor and click the eyeballs on that are off :)

AliasAngel ( ) posted Mon, 09 December 2002 at 6:22 PM

I tried that, it didn't work.

Jaqui ( ) posted Mon, 09 December 2002 at 6:30 PM

how did you make them invisible in the first place? the hierarchy editor should have worked.

CryptoPooka ( ) posted Mon, 09 December 2002 at 6:37 PM

Sometimes you have to click ALL of the eyeballs on a particular item. If you made something with separate grouped parts invisible, you often have to go through and make sure all of the parts are turned back on and not just the single one. Did that make sense? Feh, I need a nap.

Um, if you make the Body invisible, you can't get it back. I just discovered that the other day. :< No amount of checking/unchecking in the heirarchy thingy did me any good at all. Had to dump it and start over. Of course it may have been a fluke. I've had no problem with individual body parts though.

AliasAngel ( ) posted Mon, 09 December 2002 at 7:06 PM

First I double-clicked the item and made it invisible by unchecking the box, but then I selected the whole item and made it invisible using properties or something to make sure I got all of it. Now, no matter what I try, it won't come back. But it's still in the list, so I know I didn't delete it.

Spit ( ) posted Mon, 09 December 2002 at 7:23 PM

I guess it wasn't a fluke. You ran into what I ran into then. When you 'selected the whole item and made it invisible' it seems to be impossible to get visibility back. Sorry, that's what happened to me too. Only doing individual body parts works.

AliasAngel ( ) posted Mon, 09 December 2002 at 7:34 PM

Well, that sucks. I'll have to remember to never do that again. I don't suppose somebody has come up with a cool little way to fix this? Anybody? Guess I'll need to start over on my scene then.

Whathaheck are you talking about? If P4, and switching the visibilitiy 'Eye' back on in the Hierarchy Menu did not work, try pulldown menu: /Figures/Show All -or- -Select GROUND -Arrow-up until you get to the body that's invisible -Select Properties for Body and switch visibility on there. Once you have the body visibility back on, you may still need to return to hierarchy menu and restore individual bodyparts there.

Patricia ( ) posted Mon, 09 December 2002 at 8:22 PM

When this happened to me just recently, for the first time, the things I'd made invisible were not present in any of the lists....no way to arrow up and select 'em. Now I'm trying to retrain myself to go directly to the Heirarchy Editor every time. No more unchecking the Visiblity boxs for me!

tasquah ( ) posted Mon, 09 December 2002 at 11:05 PM

I had the same thing happen . I was making a scene and then taking it apart to render small bits at a time i could import as alph channels into photoshop. After hours spent trying to bring back missing parts i redid the scene then saved it as a pz3 file and just reloaded that after each render . Kind of a pain but not as much as trying to un invis things that seamed to have fallen into some wierd dimension .

Spit ( ) posted Mon, 09 December 2002 at 11:25 PM

Nance, well ::doh:: LOL Thanks. Show all from the figures menu works. Talk about a senior moment.

Nance ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 12:04 AM

Huh? Uh, What were we talking about?

Spit ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 2:35 AM

LOL

JohnRender ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 8:34 AM

This happens all the time: you hit Ctrl-H (Hide Figure) instead of Ctrl-G (Show/ Hide Ground). Using the Heirarchy Editor and clicking the "eyeball" will not make the object re-appear (Poser glitch or design feature?). Go to Figure (menu) > Show All Figures to bring the object back.

BAM ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 3:24 PM

Just to let you know, in P4 I've had a number of files (with numerous figures posed) become corrupted where a previously saved file is opened and the figures are listed in the drop down menu but are not on the screen. They were on the screen when I saved the file, but are now invisible. No amount of Show All, Hierarchy checking, arrowing up, or double clicking helped. I just had to start over. I could never predict, force, or track the problem. It was just an unwelcome surprise. My suggestion is never save over a previously saved file. Just save new versions. When your hard drive becomes full or slows down too much, judiciously delete older versions.

In a severe need to make invisible things visible again, editing the pz3-file might help. In this place, IIRC, you can also check whether there is a reference to a geometry file (or inline geometry) to verify if the missing parts are really still there (uh-oh, I've to go to bed now :) Willy
