The bulk of the credit goes to Mint for her wonderful photographs. As soon as I saw them, I knew I had to make a cyclorama backdrop for them! Thanks Mint! :o) Also, the new galleries are up at Big-i. If you are a member, you'll have 10 megs of space to show your images and host upcoming freestuff (the freestuff will be up soon!). The upload space may be adjusted at a later date to accomodate you :o). No more worrying about hosting! Keep checking the site for news!. Enjoy! Laurie

Wow, I can't thank you enough. I just stopped in to post a message to see if anyone had any snow backgrounds. You made my day. They are beautiful!

Hopefully I can adapt one of Mint's other snow scenes :o). They are all so beautiful! But I'm glad I don't have to drive in it...lol.

Many thanks, Laurie and Mint! For those who don't already know (or who don't have the Cyclorama,) Mint has kindly offered several of her beautiful digital photographs of snowscapes in Finland at her website. Lots of other excellent freebies there, too.

LaurieA,Very nice site(became a member).Under what section can I find,that second image for the Cyclorama(Versalles)? Thanks SWAMP

Philywebrider ( ) posted Sun, 08 December 2002 at 5:19 PM

I went to the mint site, and I couldn't find the snow pics, can anyone help me out?

LaurieA ( ) posted Sun, 08 December 2002 at 5:21 PM

Swamp: All of the above are in the Treasure Chests forum, visible only when you login. The two zips above are in the same topic in the forum, entitled "New Textures for Cyclorama". It should be the most recent post :o). Pretty soon when we get the freestuff section up and running, we won't have to go thru topics in a forum. You'll be able to browse, just like you do here. It's in the works! The first two textures are in the same zip file. The second image (with the charger) is in a separate zip file. Hope that helps :o) Laurie

magrindell ( ) posted Mon, 09 December 2002 at 1:36 PM

is it me or does no one ever use the layer props that come with the multiplane cycloroma when makeing textures anymore that is one of the best features if ya dont use it you just have nerd3d's background prop what is the fun of haveint it then?

Philywebrider ( ) posted Mon, 09 December 2002 at 2:07 PM

I have the multiplane cycloroma and I have two problems. One is the resolation (low res), every thing looks a little blurry when I import to photoshop. Two, the layer props are difficult to see (dotty), making it difficult to place them.

tasquah ( ) posted Mon, 09 December 2002 at 8:14 PM

I am working on 2 that will use the layer prop. Problum is it confues most people and they have a very hard time useing them ( placing people in the scene ). I guess they do not use the transparentcy pose to turn it off and on again. Phily Go to the pose folder for the cyclorama and use the turn off / on transparancy mat. Place your characters then turn it back on. Your low res problum I am not sure try to not place thing to close to the wall . Is this prob with all of them or only a few ? Do you have this problum with LaurieA Textures ? If so your rendering wrong and need to not check cast shadow and have anti alias on

The one panel has white showing and seems disjointed near the top. The settigs seem to be the same as the others. I render at 300 DPI, 3000 x 3000 something. Anti-alis on, shadows off. The cyclorama part get blurrer when rendered. I do book covers, etc and I need a clear image. It doesnot matter if the planes are foreground or background, still blurry.

RonGC ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 8:41 AM

If the prop is showing white thats a transparency problem. Select the problem plane and check the materials to see if the trans map for that prop is applied and turned on.

tasquah ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 9:52 AM

Phily: I did not render that high but sometimes in poser if you have say your work space set at 800 x 600 and render at 3000 x 3000 it will strech the background making it distorted and blurry . The original size of this photo is 2112 x 2640 so it might not be a good idea to go beyond that , I do not know the answer . I rendered up to 1000 x 1000 and it wasnt blurry . That one panel #3 original seems to be a bit blurry and why it has a white border is beyond me . It does goes away when rendered though . It seems to work well in the back ground but not very well in the foreground.

file_35152.jpg

If I set the work space at default, the 2000 x 2052 or whatever (same proportions) and render at 300 dpi, it is still blurry. attached is material screen for white border panel.

Philywebrider ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 3:43 PM

I know there was a thread about the background image fuzzing out when the resolution is increased in rendering, but what about the panels in the props section?, should they retain their clearity? They are not part of the background, are they?

Philywebrider ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 3:49 PM

The print media needs the 300 dpi. If I have to enlarge the image 2x I have too render at 600 dpi, so I try to render as close to the required size as possible.

Philywebrider ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 3:52 PM

I'm sorry, I got a bit OT.

RonGC ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 9:34 PM

Philywebrider, i see what is causing the white edges to show on your prop. From your screen shot the Transparancey min and max settings are at zero % they should be at 100%. If you slide these all the way over to full on, 100%, then ok the requestor the white will go away. As it stands now you have transparancy turned off on that particular prop.

As for resolution as you go above the original textures max dpi you will start to lose sharpness. One way around this is to purchase one of the fractal enlarging plugins for photoshop which allow you to enlage the texture to a higher resolution without any lose of sharpness or any pixelation occuring. You would then use this texture in place of the original.

These plugins are well worth the price if your doing a lot of print work!

Hope this helps :-)

Ron Cartier

LaurieA ( ) posted Tue, 10 December 2002 at 9:35 PM

I see the problem with your white plane. All the settings above are correct, EXCEPT the transparency min slider needs to go all the way to 100%. Then you'll have the transparency you need :o). Laurie

Philywebrider ( ) posted Wed, 11 December 2002 at 5:52 AM

Thanks LaurieA, RonGC, Tasququ. The Trans was off because with it turned on all I could see was dots and Tasquah suggested I turn off the Trans so I could see to place things (it was a good idea). I'm stupid enough to not realize that caused the white. I think the fact the other items did not show white confused me. Resolution is another problem. There are limits I can enlarge(even with fractals),a low res image. Thanks everyone.
