I just finished my first MAT poses and as you can see the house mouse was the unfortunate guinea-pig in my experiments. Now I was wondering if anyone would be interested if I made these available in freestuff? And before I may decide to do so I have another question... Since I mainly did recolorings of the original mouse texture would there be any copyright issues? I know it is done that way with hair textures all the time, so I suppose it's allright... But I have never posted any Poser stuff before and I would like to know what the general rule is in cases like this.

I asked this very same question to the wonderful creator of this mouse Anton and was told this : "You can't redistribute textures at all but if you did it by changing the material colors in Poser you could distribute a MAT file. Not sure if this helps. Thanks for checking. Anton " ( end quote ) I asked because i saw people doing the same thing with hair and adding the colored textures. So as long as its just the mat the answer is yes , if you colored the texture in a paint program and were going to add that the answer is no.

Finally a serious use for genetic experimentation! :)

Thanks tasquah. Well, it has to be a nono then. Modifying the texture in Photoshop was the easy way for me because I have worked with that for years and I am still new to Poser. I divided the texture in 3 layers: fur skin and eyes, which allowed me to change them seperately. If I can get the same effect in Poser I will make the MAT file available.

Ouch, so bad I wanted to post an octodon degus variation of the mouse ( very cute, very sociable rodent you find in south america) and I used the basic mousy map to do the brown an white fur of the Beast... I start to wonder if I even can post a picture of it ? pierre

Could you legally distribute the masks you used for the layers, as greyscale tiffs or jpgs, with a note of the colour adjustment settings (or a saved curves (or whatever you used) file for PS users)?

Astride, as long as you modify a commercial texture for your own use it should be ok and you can post images of that. You just cannot re-distribute such items, in this case the original but recolored texture. That would be a violation of copyright because you use the work of someone else.
