this is my first try with both hdri and global illumination in one scene. it didnt finish rendering, it was taking way too long and i didnt have the patience. theres a few things that need to be fixed anyway. for one i put the wrong texture on the open cd player, the bottom part is suppose to be black and not silver. i need to work on the lighting a bit more. the shadows are kinda blotchy looking. and the reflectivity on the floor has to go. but so far i'm happy with the results. oh yeah this was modeled in max3.1, you can see the original max rendering in my gallery. when i fix all the mistakes this bryce rendering will blow away the max rendering, in my opinion.

goddamn, sorry the image is so big. i dint realize how huge it was.

The reflections really sell themselves on the tops of the CD Players feet and on the bottom of the the Players lid, great job! I'm a sucker for reflective floors, I try to use them whenever I can, lol. But, I guess doing away with the floor and wall reflectivity would speed up the rendering. But anything with a Global Image and Global Illumination and reflective/transparent objects is going to be a long render, I toughed it out with a few of my own. Are using Bryce 4 or 5? AgentSmith

Transparency and soft shadows are absolute render horror... You always get nasty line-artifacts except for renders with Premium settings.

As I've said before, the most crucial and paramount improvement to Bryce would be in the soft shadow/radiosity department. Without that you can never render your final scene properly and you are basically stuck. This especially holds true for indoor scenes. All other deficiencies can be compensated for thru importing.

Yeah, if Bryce could have some sort of radiosity function, that would be great. In Bryce 5 we can control the amount of reflection bounce within transparent objects (TIR), now if we can just have exterior light bounce... Bryce 5 already has the soft shadow function, and I'm very happy with it, it just to be used in moderation, lol. AgentSmith

I've experimented with Bryce 5 soft shadows and to me they look kind of strange and blotchy, and way too slow. For a 20 Mpixel image the speed is unacceptable. Even the old Ray Dream 5 soft shadows look better and are way faster.
