I put music with an image once - because the theme of the image warranted it and I was trying to do a "total concept" sort of thing. If I ever do it again, I'm going to put a notice in the title so that people will know PRIOR to viewing the image for the reasons you guys mention and others. It might startle someone or even get them in trouble at their workplace. Might be a good idea for others to do the same? TT - if you want to put music with your images, talk to SkyBlueHope - she showed me the html commands that enable it. I had to get a free website to upload the song to and also had to find a free mp3 to .wav converter program. The html links to the song at your website. And thats about all I understand about it - lol.

Hi, Anne! Welcome aboard! I make my thumbnails and convert .bmp to .jpeg with Paintshop Pro. It lets you re-size any image in any format. I use it also to re-size huge rendered bitmaps to a size I can view as desktop wallpaper. Another option may be to just re-size your image with Ultrafractal to the size thumbnail you need (typically 200x150 or 200x200 for square ones) and export that as a thumbnail. Rick

Hi Spike - If there is still a need for more images, you are certainly welcome to use any of mine that you feel may be good enough.... Hope this is the correct way to approach this - I was just IM'ed by another artist who said she'd apply for me if I was too shy...lol thanks, Rick
Thread: Where do you see fractals? | Forum: Fractals
Alright! Now I feel like the poor, shunned kid in the bee costume from the video for Blind Melon's "No Rain" who has finally happened on a WHOLE BUNCH of folks in bee costumes! lol Thought I was beyond help when I started staring intently at what seemed to be excellent Voroni texturing in the carpet at work! Keep getting fish slime on my nose from trying to zoom the cool mmmf orbitals in the coloring algorithms of largemouth bass, too. ;>) I see fractals in the branches of trees and in the shapes and coloring of seashells. (don't tell anybody! lol)

Hi, metalgirl! Welcome to the fractal deck on the good ship Renderosity! lol My favorite fractal programs are Ultrafractal and Xenodream. They aren't very expensive and make great images. Ultrafractal is very versatile with the best control over coloring out there, With it you can create layered composites of many different fractals and can do some neat stuff with masking, textures and merging. I haven't used Xenodream, yet - the thinking involved with learning a new program might hurt my tiny brain so I'm procrastinating. lol I really like the images I've seen made with it. It can make some cool, painted jewelry looking shapes with great metallic textures that I've seen on the pages here. The Apophysis freeware program is real good - but addictive, so be careful! lol You can export Apo "flames", as they are called, into UF as layers for compositions and mess with the colorings, zoom or move them around once in UF. Thanks a TON, Elizabeth! Its really nice of you to make these available. Can't wait to check them out! Rick
Thread: Question about exporting to Ultra Fractal | Forum: Fractals
Hi, Vampi. All I do to export to Ultrafractal is click "export upr" under "File" and browse to a .upr file (I call it ricFlames) I have created in the Parameters folder of UF. The address would read something like c:program filesUltrafractalDataParametersricFlames.upr. You can do this with the first flame you send over to UF. When you do a "save parasmeters", just give it a name.upr in the box with the long address for "name" and title it whatever, like flame #1 or something. After that, just save each flame to that upr - be sure to title each one different. When you browse that .upr file in UF, it will have all of your flames in it. Be sure to first save each flame parameter in Apopysis. I usually give it a file name like C:Program FilesApophysis 2.0Apo-56.fla and title it like Apo-56 or whatever number I'm up to. Then export it to UF as detailed above. Apo2 remembers where you saved last. With Apo1 you could save one coloring of a flame to Apo, then export a bunch of different colorings of that shape to UF to save time and just save one coloring in Apo since it never remembered the colors saved anyhow and randomly picked one when you opened the flame again - just the shape. In Apo2, you have to save each coloring as a separate parameter in Apo before you export to UF, or you will open in UF and find all are the first color scheme you saved. Probably because Apo2 remembers the gradient used. Like Vivian says, it does take a while to draw the flame in UF depending on how fast your rig is. In Apo 1 you had to then re-save the flame in UF clicking the save formulas box so that you didn't have to constantly tell it which formula to use. Apo2 already knows, so thats better. For images with multiple flames, compose them in a little - say 444x333 wiundow first. Then when you are done and want the image bigger, open a new fractal and resize it however, like 1024x768 or something. Then in the layers sidebar, copy each layer one at a time to the layer box of the big window and delete the original junk fractal layer in the big one. If you have a fast pc, you can get away with pasting 3-5 flame layers rapidly before you have to stop to let it finish. If its slow, go one at a time. Hope this all helps... Rick
Thread: Question about exporting to Ultra Fractal | Forum: Fractals
LOL! I used to do that, too, till I learned better. Like to killed my poor old pc! The little window to big window thingie is also how I enlarge images with over 100 layers. Very tedious pasting all those layers, but its the only way - I think most pc's would freeze if you just told it to get bigger. Rick
Thread: layering flames? | Forum: Fractals
Hi Indigo. If you go to the "outside" coloring tab in UF for the flame you just pasted atop the layer stack and change the background color to transparent, it will let the bottom flame layer show thru under the one on top with "normal" merge mode. Gives a more "solid" look. You don't have to do this with the "lighten" merge mode but I find that "normal" with transparent background keeps the flames from blurring or "diluting" each other and gives a sense of depth where one is definitely in front of the other. Lighten mode works best, for me, when you are just rotating the same flame about an axis to get a kaleidoscoped look as then they do all show thru and cool designs in the center can be found. Rick
Thread: Goodbye to all my friends here in the fractal gallery.. | Forum: Fractals
Linda, I'm really bummed to hear you are leaving us. You have been like a beacon of decency and kindness to we here on the fractal pages and your presence, not to mention your fine images and wonderful artistic sense will be sorely missed. I, too, wish you would reconsider. For what is "light" that it should recoil from the "darkness" and be hidden from sight and not be there to guide the way of even one whom seeks a better path? Ours is not to judge the things of the world, but to be examples of this "light" to stand out and be seen in contrast against the darkness we percieve and show a better way. Hope you do change your mind, though it sounds like you have other concerns, as well. Sure will miss you if you don't...take care, Linda. Rick

"Captain, my captain"! From whence will come inspiration, now? Dang! Keith, its been a pleasure and an absolute privilege to see your artwork here in the short time I've been involved with Renderosity. This is a sad day, man. I know you gotta do what you gotta do, but sure wish it didn't have to be so. Thanks for blazing a trail few of us will ever be able to follow but will always look down in wonder. You sprinted when most of us could barely crawl. You'll always be "da man" in my book and I will miss the excitement and anticipation of reading "Deagol has uploaded a new gallery image" in my e-bot mail.

Hey Keith - Awesome web-site! So glad I can go there periodically for a deagol-fix. I like the astronomy stuuf, too. Let us know when Gallery 16 is done. Rick
