I created the object with Lightwave and I'm using Poser 6. Both on Mac OSย X.
Thank you all for the information.
Kind regards

Thread: Imported object renders black | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Ok. The props I've created are actually quite small. Now I can be at ease because I know why it is happening.
Thank you Chris.

Thread: Rendering stereoscopic 3d to be viewed (in print) with 3D glasses | Forum: Carrara
I've once done some testing with 3D-apps and red/green 3D-effects. Unfortunately I haven't got a clue how to create fullcoloured images but the basic idea is that two images, representing the same scene from shlightly different angles, are combined in a way that one can't be seen when viewed through a red lens and the other through a green lens. In Carrara I'd create a group of two adjacent cameras, that can be moved closer and farther away from each other, and a target helper object. These three are parented by another helper object that is located between the cameras and is also set to point at the target helper object. This way it should be easiest to control the placement of the cameras and their target. I suppose that to get the best result the cameras should be equally far from the parenting helper object between them. The further the cameras are from from each other the stronger the 3D-effect is. In some point however the effect gets too strong and it is lost. This point varies a little to the viewer though. Another way to control the strength of the effect is to move the target point further away and closer to the cameras. I presume that the best result can be obtained by setting the target point a little closer than the furthest visible point on an object in the scene but I'd recommend that you test with this rather than take it for granted. The closer the point is to the cameras the more eyes cross along distance beyond the target point. Propably setting the target point further than anything else in the scene would be a logical choise but it might enhance the effect if you brought it a bit closer than that. This way to closest point in the scene don't have to be quit so far from each other in different images. Please, inform me on this one if someone tests it. I did the combining of the images in Photoshop. One B&W-image was coloured red and the other green. Then the different layers were treated so that one looked black when viewed through the red lens and the other through the green lens which of course depends also on the tones of the red and green. Finally the top layer was set to blend the lower level so that they were both visible. I cannot remember the correct blend mode nor if I did reduce both layers' opacity. I think the blend mode was either multiply or screen but I'm not sure on this one either. -HK
Thread: Church WIP (paper render) | Forum: Carrara
Your style is great! I don't know if a colourful tiffany stained glass in the end of the church suits the style or if you can get it to fit to the dome but it could add to the mood which is strong already. How about little wings (not bird or angel wings but the kind that buildings have) that stretch to sides behind the dome so the overall shape of the church would be a cross. -HK
Thread: How to make a realistic snow shader?? | Forum: Carrara
Fake fresnel? Excellent idea! Perhaps one could also mix two different spot-components with the fake fresnel so there wouldn't be areas where the snow didn't sparkle. There is quite a lot of snow here and according to the ample reference material it seems to me that the sparkle is visible throughout the snow covered area. The fake fresnel is still a superb idea for it enables the sparkles to change place according to viewing angle. -HK

I'd add some sparkling to the snow. In real world snow seems to sparkle when temperature is well below zero degrees (Celsius). For stills you could use spots in the glow channel. The image shows my settings for it. For animation the place of the sparkles should change according to camera position but I haven't been able to figure out how it should be done. If you have any ideas I would be glad to hear them. The link shows an image where I've used the snow-shader shown here. -HKThread: I got mine! | Forum: Carrara
Thread: Shipping confirmations? | Forum: Carrara
We finally got our shipping confirmation. Bet everyone else has their packages already, even when they've ordered after us. Think it'll take another week to get here and I can't even track it. The waiting. The agony. -HK
Thread: SubD? | Forum: Carrara
Did you use the subdivide-command from the Selection-menu or the Smooth-option that is in the Modelling-tab of the Properties-tray. Wow, awful lot of terms there. :/ In other words. If you want to smooth your object by subdividing it you must use the Smooth-option that can be found from the Properties-tray. First you have to have atleast one face from the object you wish to smoothen selected. Some how I've got the impression I'm not making things any clearer. -HK
Thread: Buying a new computer, what do you think | Forum: Carrara
Some more water into the mill. I'm thinking about getting a new computer too. I've used both PCs and MACs and, personally, I think I prefer PCs. That is, on the whole. I've only used Carrara on MAC. If I really had a choice, I'd get Linux for OS. But what can you do with it when there are no programs for it. :) So, to the point. I'm trying to select the most suitable CPU for modelling and rendering. Where can you see those benchmarks someone mentioned? Do those benchmarks test renderings time or are them those that test gaming abilities? Someone told me that Pentiums have had better results with graphics but here I find opposite information. Correct me if I've misread. -HK
Thread: Not getting any better, but at least I'm getting faster. | Forum: Carrara
What if there was another torch on the other side of the doorway? It couldn't be seen, but it would cast light on the other side the Kilroy. Maybe you could throw in some more daylight because most of the torch on the background is lost in the shadows. Not much but enough for a rim of the torch to be seen. Great picture, still! -Hannu kulju
Thread: Alternative C4 Upgrade ideas. | Forum: Carrara
I sure hope they've fixed atleast some of the bugs instead of trying to create new buggy features. Still we have pre-ordered C4. If it still has some of the most annoying bugs I'm going to write a long letter to Eovia. Like it would make any difference.
Thread: 3d studio max and Carrara question. | Forum: Carrara
Sorry. didn't read your post well enough. You mentioned suggesting the import. But called to my buddy and he confirmed that Max opens/imports .3ds atleast from Rhinoceros. -Hannu Kulju
Thread: 3d studio max and Carrara question. | Forum: Carrara
Max should open .3ds. If I remember correctly. I think I used it when sending objects from Rhino to Max. Is your client opening or importing? Maybe it was format that had to be imported.
.obj is also quite widely used format so it should work too.
