To quote Neil Gaiman: "the danger is not piracy, the danger is obscurity"... I put all my art under Creative Commons licensing; I allow free personal use ( including derivative works) with attribution. I even provide 2000 (ish) width images (one can print a pretty decent 8x10 from these) on my website for nearly all of my images and allow outside linking from sites like Myspace.. I have no doubt that this has helped my google ranking substantially. My website is usually on the first page of google results. Not to mention I have had a fair amount of blog coverage.
Am I making much money selling fractals? no, but I make some, enough to pay for my equipment, and probably a lot more than I'd have made if no one had heard of me. Anyway, for me it's just a hobby; I have a normal job.

I got two messages from her but didn't install the program because the whole thing sounded fishy -- "hey I love your work and won't you download and run my fractal program"??
um no I don't think so....

I notice that the site selling the images displays them with a PREVIEW icon on them (after you click on one) to prevent you from just save-as'ing the files and copying them to your own phone. Oh the irony, they steal other's images then worry about users stealing from them.I can't even understand why anyone would pay for cell phone wallpaper anyway but..... FWIW I don't watermark any of my images, I only display 800x600(ish) and I don't think those are much use to anyone aside from looking at on the screen.

copy the text and just paste it directly into a fractal window in UF. To do the reverse: I used a text editor to edit the UPR file and copy/paste the text.

naturally you will need to play with the various parameters on the formula to get something interesting out of it. Here's an example:example {
fractal:
title="example" width=640 height=480 layers=1
credits="Jock Cooper;8/29/2006"
layer:
caption="Background" opacity=100
mapping:
center=0.205321180924/-0.860703124195 magn=8.0096413
formula:
maxiter=100 filename="jock.ufm" entry="IFS-Barnsley+jockIII"
p_bailout=1E3 p_mode=Alternate p_bseed=0/1 p_c=0 p_p1=-1.1/-0.1
p_p2=-3.162500005/1.350000001 f_fn1=cotan f_fn2=cosh f_fn4=ident
f_fn5=ident f_fn3=ident f_fn6=ident p_func_operation=+
p_p3=0.59722304/0.753208 p_p4=1/0
inside:
transfer=linear filename="Standard.ucl" entry="Default"
outside:

index=199 color=16777215 index=234 color=16777215
opacity:
smooth=no index=0 opacity=255
}

This is the number one question I get asked. Most of those images use IFS-Barnsley+Jock III in jock.ufm. Some use tweaked barnsley formulas from eg kpk.ufm or tma2.ufm. To make it 3d you must combine the UF outputs with a 3d program like Bryce or Cinema 4D (which I use). There are ways to make it look 3d using pure UF but a true 3d package is much nicer IMHO.Thread: Fractal Animation | Forum: Fractals
Well worth downloading, the deepest zoom is way cool. Going where no one has gone before.

If I saw 'Remaining: 900 hours' I would start deleting some layers. 4000x3000 is 12 million pixels and 900 hours is 3.2 million seconds. That's like 4 pixels per second.

Your talking about a single image with a render time of 3 weeks? what resolution was that?
Thread: Stanley Kubrick, where are you? | Forum: Fractals
Not to mention power use--one computer with a dual core CPU vs. two computers with a weaker processor, I would expect the two computers to consume more power. I don't have much faith in the Ultra Fractal network rendering code either. Has anyone done actual benchmarks under controlled conditions?

OK I thought that's what you meant. I'm running a 64 bit dual core now. But I am using 32 bit Windows. Dual core basically doubles the speed of any multithreaded app (eg UF, PS, and other programs we like to use). I went from an Athlon 3100 (1 core, 1.8 ghz 256cache) to the 4200 (2 core, 2.2 ghz, 512 cache) and my render times are 2-3 times faster. Of course I had to get a new motherboard.

You could use some more RAM, another 512MB is only like $50. Also have you tried Canasta, because that one is really fun too.

Hey quit complaining. A two minute animation can take several weeks of 24x7 to render. :PWhat is your CPU speed and what resolutions/filters are you talking about? I got a dual core AMD (4200) last winter and everything got twice as fast. Of course still not fast enough, but better.

Has something changed? I don't see any images in the costest. Do we have to wait until it's over to see them?
