wow! I wasn't expecting this amount of interest in my silly post, thanks peeps. i have notes to take it seems.
anyhow I thought about it and I think it's better if i just post the link to the comic page, so people can see what im talking about. (hopefully its not breaking rules) but it's not posting the pics on here so dont click the link if you dont want to see k4 kids in the bath (it only shows their shoulders up)

Sadly I never kept the kids in the wet form as it's a once off scene so cannot provide the info, and I'm not getting told off again for posting the wrong image. I just want advice from people who know how to work with the Material room and how to use nodes properly. (i am now at the age where i pay attention to such things! lol)

I ended up changing the scatter node value to 1 because the other ones i tried made his head look like rubber (and his names not ken!) I changed the lighting and now happy with the results. thanks for the help.

cheers guys you are awesome. I admit I should have learnt this stuff years ago but lighting has always bugged me. (only trouble is now im older i forget stuff easy and have to make notes on everything. thanks a lot for the help, this is an easy scene so im going to make the changes and recut the full scene.

thanks. from your comments the penny dropped and i worked out the situation. I had turned off the raytrace because the girl's hair with it on takes forever to render. but with it off you het this lightbulb in the head effect in the m4 model,

thanks. I always use superfly I cannot stand waiting for renders thats why i gave up on daz and came home to poser lol
Im just learning about the inverse square things, the annoying thing these days is i have to write everything down so things take ages. what i need is good lighting of my cast members while the scene still looks dark and gloomy. The good thing is once I get the lights right i dont have to change them anymore.

that sounds interesting but im not that tec minded do i need all the parts in poser to export them in?You could set up the scene in Daz and export it as an obj into Poser for the render.
I don't use Daz but something I do in Poser when I have to do a lot of test renders is to render a smaller version of the image and drop render quality. It looks like you're already using low render quality. You might try smaller images until you have it right.
and yes the mistake i made in this scene was putting a unit with lots of objects on in the scene (but not this shot) im working on making my rooms a bit more sparse but interesting.

thanks for the help. I keep experimenting but waiting a long time for renders is something i don't find easy . the most annoying thing is i can do big complicated scene using poser 11 and they work out fine but with Daz i have this sort of issue. im trying to sort it but I am leaning on sticking with poser and forgetting about the money i have invested in Daz stuff most annoying.Yes, the lack of a GPU that can help may well be an issue - CPU is much, much slower so the default two hour render time may elapse before the render is much converged (pixels have reached a fairly stable value). Sine even the well-lit surfaces are noisy I think it isn't immediately going to help to add more light, though you may later find you need to add some weak, soft lights to slightly fill the shadowed areas and thena djust the Tonemapping to balance. The main thing to try is extending the rendertime, which is in seconds, or simply disable it by setting the Maximum Time to -1.
