Quote - CMS is Content Management Service, it is a database service that makes the Smart Content possible. I am seriously considering disabling it after discovering the vlog folder.
How do you disable the CMS?
And if you do, will that affect your Content Library or ability to use all the items in the Content Library?

Quote - The CMS also has a vlog folder. Every time you start your computer a new file is written to the folder. The size of the file appears to be related to amount of content with meta data.
And what is CMS again? I'm still new at this. What should I do to lesson the amount or # of files being stored other than delete Temp files which I already do?

Thread: Installing and Locating Content Frustration | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I've been running into the same problems. There really needs to be a standardized, across-the-board way to install content in both DAZ and Poser in such a way that people, especially newbies like me and perhaps you too will not have to go through so much frustration & hair pulling. I use Photoshop and other editing programs, and have for over a decade now, and I don't recall ever having so much frustration whenever I wanted to install new content in PS such as new filters, actions, and plug-ins. A few clicks and no muss, no fuss. It just gets it done. Piece of cake.
But with DAZ, and worse yet, Poser, you try to install something and files for something like a hat, or hair, or a single necklace get scattered all over several different folders and embedded 6-8 folders deep in the deep recesses of one big Runtime folder. And when you try to load something onto your model, you get a "Cannot locate file..." message and trying to move the right files, like .obj files, etc into the correct folder inside 3 or 6 other folders ends up being a giant 3 dimensional puzzle project. So yeah, I've been there. Plenty! Including the past 24 hours!

"...Understanding Women"
I see you have the condensed version.

By all means ElZagna, forward away to Smith Micro. Go for it. It may help improve the product. If they're willing to listen, and I hope for their sake, they are.
To lmckenzie, Yeah, I kinda believe it. lol
Maybe if I had bribed the SM tech support guy with the heart of a targ and a skin of blood wine, he might've been a bit more cooperative.

Quote - Do they deliberately make Poser's interface difficult/incomprehensible for novices to navigate?
I've had similar problems just getting started with things which makes it frustrating; if you don't already know what you're doing it's almost like you need an expert beside you to guide you through the darn interface.
I mean I know I'll always be a dumb newbie but Smith Micro doesn't have to rub it in.
I know EXACTLY how you feel and agree. I kind of feel like Smith Micro may possibly be making it intentionally more difficult out of some elitist nerd thing. Like the unspoken attitude among the software engineers might be "Unless you're a real upper echelon whiz kid like us, you just don't belong here or deserve to use it. So there! yada yada yada."
But to answer Laura's statement that DAZ isn't any easier, I have to disagree. I'm still going to be learning this stuff for a long long time, but do think that the learning curve is a bit less steep and the UI with DS4 more user friendly. I still have a lot of questions, but am making more progress with and enjoying DS4 more.
And the Poser tech support guy I spoke with last week acted like he just didn't want to bother with me when I called for help about installing content. He just tried to rush me off the phone. So I continued pulling hair and banging my head against a wall, or feeling like I was, for several more hours until I thought, "Screw this, I'm going to give DAZ a try! I've heard all about how great Poser is, but just not liking this!"

A good idea to suggest to Smith Micro, perhaps?
Yes, that IS a good suggestion! Makes a lot of common sense.

Ok, thanks. Do I need to run the update after every not only every morph, but also every hair, clothes, prop and other installs?
Thread: Poser 2012 Installation Path for Victoria 4 & Others Please? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
No, I've gotten absolutely nothing accomplished in the last several hours except pulling some hair out & deleting all the pre-installed characters Poser Pro 2012 had included.
No matter where I put it, even though it does recognize V4, none of the Muscle Morphs ++ or other Muscle Morphs work. I cannot get it to make any transformations to V4's body. It worked with "Alyson" in the tutorials, but not V4. There's no point in trying to install anything else, if I can't even get these (supposedly) simple things done. :(

Thanks for the info so far.
Maybe I am overthinking, but I want to get everything installed right the first time. Well, uh, the 2nd time. Well, no, 3rd time now. Did some hairpulling a couple nights ago not being able to find V4 in either DAZ or Poser Pro.

When I go to install the V4 Elite series, do I need to make a separate "DAZ V4" folder for all the different Elite girls, or will it do that automatically?
Also, do I need to make a new dummy Poser.exe file for each different kind of content or Poser model? Iow, one for V4, one for A4, then S4, then hair, then props, then lights, then etc, etc, etc?
Do I need to install to the folders I already manually made for hair, props, hands, camera, library, etc, etc?
OR,
Does the installer end up pouring everything into one BIG runtime folder, face, lights, props, everything?
If I can just get everything installed correctly, then I think I can use the many tutorial videos for everything else. Maybe. But then again, if the tutorial videos answered everything, then there wouldn't be so many of us here on this forum. Asking everything from newbie questions like me all the way up to the rocket science questions like others here.
Thread: Poser 2012 Installation Path for Victoria 4 & Others Please? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well, what I did was make that separate "DAZ Content" folder in Documents as some suggested and then created a "DAZ V4" folder with a dummy "Poser.exe" and "Runtime" folders with all the various dummy library folders.
When I chose the destination path of Documents/DAZ Content/ it created its own runtime folder & installed everything in there. I then found it in the Library inside Poser & clicked Add To.
Now the NEXT QUESTION: How do I install the Morphs ++ and Muscle Morphs? Same path?
Thread: Saving Renders. Yes... I am this stupid. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
But "Export" to what?
I totally identify with MacMyers. I'm just starting at this and confused as hell about stuff.
Why doesn't Poser Pro simply say "Save" or "Save As" like Photoshop for example. A much more sensible & understandable program. I'll tell ya, compared to Poser, Photoshop CS5 is "See Spot run" easy. Brain dead simple.
