Thread: Combat Boots | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Use the grouping tool. select the entire boot. Be careful to get every face or the boot will have holes in it. Click the reverse normals button. Repeat for each segment of the boot (shin, foot, toe) Save the fixed boot back to the library.

I know, chain mesh would be a better description wouldn't it. The boots are available as part of the Taarna Figure, or in the "Taarna Armor" kit. If you have P3, Get the "Taarna Armor" DL. As the complete Taarna figure is P4 only. They are availabel from Fun(free) Stuff or my page. http://www.theworks.com/~nerd/nerd3d.htm

When you are in the Mesh Smooth Parameter Tab There are two buttons below the Smooth numerical settings. One is a square, the other is a triangle. Click the Triangle. This causes the program to perform the smooth at a face(triangle) level rather than a polygon level. This is necessary to get the Hexagon effect. (This is in 3DS 2.5)

Wait, stop I'm wrong. I just asked Paul to explain it to me again. (so I'm dense) Maby I got it right this time. Use the Mesh Smooth set everything to "1.0" and operate on the trianles, Then manally punch the center out of each hexagon. (Mesh edit, delete faces) It's kind of like playing with bubble wrap. When you get most of the bubbles popped ya gotta roll it all arroung looking for the last few bubbles. Last, select all the faces and use the extrude faces tool. This takes more work than the Lattice method, but the lattice method produces WAY too many faces. The obj for the mash bikini was almost 10MB. This OBJ is like 700 K. I'll be posting a conforming chain mail bikini bottom latter tonight.

Yeah, In between crashes, freezes and not saving the files, every once in a while I can actually create something in 3DS. Sorry, I'm ranting ;-)

Chain Mail Technique: Obviously this depends on your mesh editing program. But, here's the jist. Use the Mesh Smooth tool on what ever body part you need armor for. (you will need to diddle with all the dials to get the hexagon effect.) Then apply a lattice tool to create the "chain". Be sure to only apply the lattice to the edges, not the vertecies. Fiddle with the lattice diameter and viola chain mail. Get after it with you boolean scisors for the pieces you need.

If we let Mason stick it on with Poser Crazy Glue it'll stay put. Mason, there will be a bottom as soon as I get time. When I'm done feel free to Poser Glue her together.
Thread: multiple P4 figures In B4? | Forum: Bryce
Actually I don't remember P3, I just got Bryce. Figures the first scene I try to do has 6 Poser figures in it. I just can't start in the shallow end! Thanks to all for your input!
Thread: multiple P4 figures In B4? | Forum: Bryce
Check out my "Natural Disaster". It was put together using this technique. All the figures were Placed using poser. Then I put Two great big boxes above and below the scene. I scaled them to be wide and deep enough to cover everything, but only a pinch tall. Then I exported each figure with the guide boxes to .obj. Next, I imported each one to a seperate bryce file, deleted the boxes and fixed all the textures. Finally I merged all the bryce files and put in the ground planes. Now for a question. Isn't there some way to scale textures in bryce? I thought I saw it someplace. the Cement and street need a finer texture. All I need to do is scale it down.
Thread: multiple P4 figures In B4? | Forum: Bryce
Setting props at the edges works great. It's not nearly as big a pain as I thought it would be. In fact Because I was handling the figures one as a time I think it was easier to workout all the textures and groups. I even simplified your technique further. I used two great big boxes one above and one below. Scaled to be about this >< thick and wide and long enough to cover the whole scene.

That's what I did. I dunno I'll try it some diffrent ways and see what I get. I may be a poser problem, because the poser file I'm using is doing some strange stuff.
Thread: Program to edit obj? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Using P4 so the plugin doesn't exist. I found the obj plugin for RDS finally. It does import, but good grief the figure, heck an entire scene in a little dot. I can't even zoom in enough to work on it. Man I think I'm gunna go back to using sPatch. I woudda saved a ton of dough. What is a poser unit? A nanometer? You'd think MC would rig their applications to speak the same language. Sigh... I guess if this was easy it wouldn't be fun right?

Is that Day Dream Studio. If so I have 5 and it doesn't do OBJ firmat. Is 5.02 a patch that will allow OBJ?
