Thread: OT dontcha just luv PCs - not !!!!!!!! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
For email and internet and surfing Rendo, I've just replaced my 1.2 GHz PC with an older iMac G3 (450 MHz). I also edit with Final Cut 2, and Photoshop 5 on the iMac which runs OS 9 and has Nortons. My superpowered PC (loaded to the gunwhales with Internet Security Software because it's so easy to virus these things up), got slower and slower. When I took it in for fixing, the tech said that the security software was slowing it up and that if I took it off, things would run smoother. So, open the machine up for viruses which techs will gleefully charge me to remove, or switch to a platform that works. No brainer!
Thread: New female Poser figure? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
How about two new figures, one real and one not so real.
The not so real would be along the lines of either Vaughn Bode or Suydam (how about R. Crumb?).
The real one would be more along the style of a real woman. Sometimes you get tired of de-statuesquing a tall model into someone a little more human.
Ease of use would be handy as well. Compatibility is paramount which means she would also be unlincensed (so that she will play well with others). Use of standard morphing is probably the right thing. If she comes from Daz she may only be Vicky redialed. Take it from here

Thread: Any Gerry Anderson Fans out there (other than A Appleyard ;0 ) ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I grew up watching Supercar, Fireball XL5 (fave), Stingray (Troy Tempest was modeled after James Garner), Thunderbirds, and of course, Captain Scarlet. Only saw one episode of Secret Service. Whatever you do, don't rent the new Thundebirds movie from a couple years back. sucked big time. Poser 3 makes great Steve Zodiac and Doctor Venus faces.
Thread: A Rant: Poser art NOT real art! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Just remember: "A critic knows the price of everything, but the value of nothing!" I love using poser, takes me back to my days as a photographer but without the attendant hassles of hiring a model, waiting for her to show up, finding out that she's not "into" modelling that day and leaving early. Posette and all her daughters rule!

Thread: This place needs a server overhaul ... Its TOO SLOW !!!! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
same here, although with a twist. I have slowness problems with my PC at home (highspeed broadband) where, I can dial up, and wait for a things to heat up. When I go in to work and use my Mac there, same high speed broadband, actually the same Service Provider, Rendo pops up and sings. and get this, the Mac at work is slower than the PC I have at home (800 Mhrz Mac versus 1.2 Ghrz PC). My next home computer is going to be from a fruit company.

in regards to the Canada Recordable Materials Levy, a couple things must be clarified. It is not legal to copy works for any use but your own, ie. making a back up. The Recordable Materials Levy was enacted on the assumption that any person using these materials was going to do an illegal recording any way so even if you use the materials in your own work, you still have to pay the tax. second, thus far the money collected over the years of this Levy, not a penny has gone to either the record companies or the musicians. The money has gone to pay for it's own bureaucracy and for lobby purposes. Artists are now trying to become hopeful eventual recipients of the money reaped in this Levy.
Thread: Comments in the gallery | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I had this one respondent who didn't have a gallery, constantly slag me because they didn't like the way I smoothed out the jaggies. They would then come back and suggest other images that I should emulate to their satisfaction. They even slagged me for not smoothing out a frame grab from an anim I had done. If it do a frame grab, I (and this is an "I" moment) like to show the frame in a way that it is presented in the anim. After a while, I called them on this stating that if they wanted an image to look a certain way, that they should actually get off the pot and do something. If you don't like what I do, I can understand that. If you gibber on, complaining that what I do is not what you would do, then by all means show me what you can do. This is, after all, an ARTIST'S community. Show some respect.

Thread: Using copyrighted stuff in projects | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
copyright is a thorny issue, fraught with legal dangers. An example would be if I were to use a copyrighted image in the background of a piece, without permission of the owner, I would have to have it removed if there was any hint of commercial future. In the movie industry, you have to purchase E and O insurance (Errors and Ommisions) to cover yourself in the event that there's a Budwieser logo on the wall of the bar that you are shooting in. don't hope that "No one will notice", because you will get rolled, probably by someone whom you least expect. Someone's got a grudge against you, this is a good way to get back. Another aspect is that if we start using copyrtighted items in our work, this would then give corporations just cause to use our works, or a pastiche of those works in their corporate campaigns without us seeing a dime. Finally, copyright tends to be such a fluid beast, that is only supported from the courts of your particular country. In many cases, something from one country is easily "translated" by some one else in a different country, and considered as an original in that area. "All In The Family" was a direct copy of a British show (starring Sidney James), with nothing more than a dialect change. All I can say is that we have to watch our backs, and support each other, because we are not going to get any sympathy from the corporations.
Thread: No postwork catagory or Poser 2d + catagory | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I use postwork because it gives me an image that I want to portray. Postwork could also include non-Poser items from Handspan or Daz, or whoever, because in the purist mind, they did not ship with Poser. Poser doesn't do all the work for you. You need to do something with it. In essence, if you morph a target, it is no longer the original that was shipped, and therefore, it's modified, and post work had been done. This is such a narrow field. It reminds me of going to a Science Fiction convention and having squads of people wandering around declaring which Star Trek costume is authentic or not.
Thread: Not OT but not strictly Poser - artistic merit | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I had the same thing happen to me a few times. I did something really hard at that point. I did a portrait in poser, printed it out on heavy stock paper and mounted it on a board. I then got out my oils and painted over it. It became like a paint by numbers thing. afterwards, I felt so relaxed, almost cleansed. can't explain it, but I was taking something I had done simply and remade it by hand..... have no idea why, it just worked.
Thread: A (stupid?) thread about Poser and the 3D modellers ... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
just remember "A critic knows the price of everything, but the value of nothing" I can do a quick anim or graphic with no fuss or mess, it's not going to cost me a small car in order to do it. I like Poser because I can get my thoughts and dreams out without having to go spiders doing it. Two things that Poser is great at that no other programs can match is Crime Scene Reconstruction and Pre-visualization of staging and artist installations. gave up my ego for lent
Thread: What are some good computer graphics magazines? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Two of the ones that I pick up on a monthly basis are Digit, and 3D World. They are british magazines, filled with tutorials and articles and product reviews. One of the best things about them is that you get cover discs of freeware and demos. Then, of course, is Renderosity Magazine. Other mags that are great for inspiration alone are Res, BPM (which has a good selection of anime and other related things), old issues of Toaster User, and gaming magazines (yes, good for inspiration if for nothing more than looking art game art and saying "I can do better than that") Another mag that I've found helpful is MacAddict, once again it has cover discs with freeware and demos on it, but only for the mac. happy hunting
