With FREE Poser content the developer hardly ever bothers to make sure the files unzip into their proper runtime folders. This is extreme laziness!!! But it's free so what can you say.
Therefore I have 2 runtime directories setup in D|S preferences. One is my working runtime and the other is my TEST runtime. Within D|S you can set up multiple "runtime" folders via Preferences - Directories - Poser Content Directories - (Add or Search).
Anyhoot all my new zip format content I install into my TEST runtime. My test runtime gets CLEARED after every test - this is important. In this way I can see where the specific new files are getting unzipped to (using Windows Explorer) and how to move them to their correct location in my working runtime folder.
Another BIG issuse is that most FREE content (and some bought content) have badly written file path names in their coding. I have to edit the coding to write proper file paths for them to work properly in D|S (and also in POSER).
IMPORTANT: Always make a back up copy of any file you plan to open to edit.
You can use Windows Notepad or Word to open and edit files but they are not good for such a sensitive and tedious coding work. There are other better FREE text editors on the internet.
I would say approx 70% of FREE Poser content and approx 2% of purchased Poser content I have to fix up to get them to work properly in D|S (and POSER).
Thread: How to get Poser Props (PP2) with morph (PMD) to work in DAZ Studio | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Quote - So the original line wouldn't be there anymore, correct? And will the file still work in Poser? Thanks.
Hi MelnOhio, sorry for not getting back earlier. I forgot about this post. The change I made to the make the PP2 file to work in D|S does not affect it from working again in Poser (I have Poser 7 so I can't say for earlier versions).

DS Manual is lacking in many useful things. But luckily DAZ has free website tutorials.
Also many great tutorial videos by very accomplished 3D artists are posted at YOUTUBE.
Under the YOUTUBE videos search tab type DAZ Studio.

Happy rendering

That new 3d world is actually well behaved for a porn site. I believe they take what they do seriously. However some of the off site links it has are not. To be safe create a spare hotmail email account and use that.
Also I surf with "Mozilla Firefox 3" and have installed a great plugin called "Add Block Plus" from Mozilla's web site. ABP takes care of most of the nasty popups from those off site links.
One note about web browser plugins; the more you have then the more unstable your web browser. Don't install plugins all because they seems like a good idea.
If you signup then check out a 3D artist called RRWard. He is quite funny in an interesting sort of way. Some of the other 3D artists are good but most a too crass for my taste.
Also don't forget to post your question into their forum. You may get a little distracted whilst there and forget your original purpose. LOL.
Happy rendering.

Content Advisory! This message contains nudity, profanity, violence
The following link is to an ADULT render site. www.renderotica.com
They have some interesting free body parts & accessories. Membership is free to most areas.
Once again it is an ADULT site and DO NOT go there if you are not an ADULT as legally defined by whatever National law governs your real world location (obligatory disclaimer).

Deep Shadow Map are best for spot lights. For distant lights DSM produce very soft shadows.
Therefore I use Ray Trace for distant lights to give sharp shadows.
I know RT is slower than DSM therefore I have only one distant light with shadow turned on. All other distant lights are just to get more illumination.
You don't have to turn shadows on for every light. If I have a mixture of spot lights and distant lights I have to decide which lights to give me the desired shadow. All the other lights have shadows turned off, they are there for illumination only.
I see some renders by others with outdoor scene where their figures have multiple ground shadows. I don't know about you but when I last checked we only have one sun and it produces only one shadow of me. LOL.

I have frequent lockups or freezes of D|S when using FREE content Poser files such as a CR2 character file. The usual problem is that the code within the file specifies an incorrect filepath or a filename that doesn't exist. Use a text editor to open the file and investigate the filepath and the filename it is calls to load. Any filepath before the word "runtime" should be deleted.
There are several discussions in the forum about this common loading problem. It's not D|S or Poser's fault, it's just plain bad programming of the people who make the free content. Suppose we should't expect too much from freebies. Sigh!

DS is to the 3D world what the first portable camera (Kodak) was to the artists world. DS's simplicity has made 3D accessible to the masses just as Kodak camera made everyone an instant artist.
I only joined Renderosity this year and already I am seeing a great increase of new 3D artists posting.
The entire 3D community better be prepared for this big shift in demographics. If they don't come up with some rating system then certainly Daz will because through DS Daz will have the power of the masses behind them.
Sorry but I'm a realist.

Plugins that need updating in D|S 2.2 are:
Plugins affected by bugs in D|S 2.2 are:
That's about it so far, but please check up on DAZ3D Forum for further news.
I have moved to D|S2.2 and enjoy it's stability and speed of render.
However I miss my plugins and hope DAZ3D correct this soon.
