Thread: Cool! I got Bryce 4...but | Forum: Bryce
Nukeboy, you shouldn't have to adjust ambience, transparency and bump after installing the Turbo Importer - it is set up to take the percentage in Poser/DS and translate that to the Bryce equivalent, i.e., 1 in Poser for bump is 100% in DS, which is less than 10 in Bryce. It places the ball in the Transparency channel and set the blend transparency to on. If the import into Bryce isn't doing that, then you may not have installed the Turbo Importer correctly. It should have been installed to the main Bryce 5 directory folder so that the installer replaces the original OBJImport.bro file with the new one in the plugins folder. Look in the plugins folder and make sure that the OBJImport.bro file has a date of about 7/22/04.

Not sure if these will help: http://www-graphics.stanford.edu/~tolis/toli/research/shuttle.html There are a few at Turbosquid, not free though

LOL, AS on the shadows ... It often irks me when people insist that "real-life" shadows aren't that sharp. Here in Texas, they're so sharp they'll cut you :P

Jim, I have a 2.6 GHz P4 with 1 GB RAM and P5 has always taken forever to open on it. Your computer must like you or something :P

I just did the rename on that plugin file and it took Poser 5 about 2 minutes to open rather than the approximately 7 to 10 minutes that it used to take. That alone makes this a good thing.

No offense taken. Just wait until the final is released to purchase it. I just know that its done very often in the digital graphics community.

If Bryce won't read PNGs, then you need to install Quicktime. For the texture not applying to the Maya Doll's head ... not sure what is happening here. It's actually loading the texture into the middle channel instead of the first one. In the mtl file, it has the correct code: map_Kd /Maps/mayahead01tx32241.jpg I'll keep working on it to see if I can figure out why this is happening. By the way, if you use two copies of a figure, and they both use the same textures, and you import them as one OBJ into Bryce, the second figure may not have the textures applied to it. If not, check to see if the original OBJ has spaces in the filename. Check the link above for the entire posting on it.

Many plugins are released as a beta version, it's not a new concept. I've purchased them myself for trueSpace and Cinema 4D. This allows users to get some use out of them earlier while the development team adds more capabilities. Updates are then provided free to those who purchased it while in the beta stage.

The 0.9.2 version of D|S is modifed to export a modified MTL file and place the textures in subfolders. It also adds the transparencies to the MTL file and a few other settings.
The Turbo Importer modifies the Bryce OBJImporter plugin to accommodate the new MTL file so that the transparencies are applied, sets the blend transparency, and the diffusion/spec/ambience settings to match what was in Poser/D|S. There are a couple of things that I believe they are working on like putting the bump map in the second texture panel. It imports in the first one, so it has to be moved.
Grouper doesn't make it possible to import the transparency maps unless you've applied them to a mesh as a regular texture or the actual settings for ambience, diffusion, etc. Same for MeTaL Fixer.

Yes, I can get to them that way, but what I wanted to see was any of the old articles, like the one by Will. I don't have any URLs for any other than these two.

These are the types of articles I was looking for and I was hoping there were more so that I could read them: http://www.renderosity.com/index.ez?viewStory=6131 http://www.renderosity.com/index.ez?viewStory=6785 I don't necessarily have a name or date, so there's nothing to search on. I just want to read them all. If I do a search using an asterisk, I get a few spotlight articles, some of the front page news, etc. Very little actually came up, which is why I was looking for an "Articles" item on the menu that would list all articles of this type.
