But how will this renderer compare to Lightwave, arguably the best rendering engine ever created? I guess only time will tell (bench tests and so forth...)

Jacqui: I was being facetious about dumping other pro apps for Poser 5. I do animation and composite everything in post anyway. But let's face it: having dynamics and non linear animation in a Poser-like app is a big leap forward for this program. Plug ins like shave and a haircut and C4D dynamics and Max's Stitch might have some competition, which is only good for everyone. I'll render somewhere else because I doubt P5 will match the speed and quality of the good rendering software available.

I live in Dallas and going as part of a large company, otherwise, forget about it---I wouldn't be able to get close. It's my first time (and might be my last, at these prices), so I'm ecstatic to be going.

Don't worry ChuckEvans---if anything big happens I'll post it here immediately. Next best thing.

WOW! If this is what Poser 5 will bring---and if they add a batch renderer---who the heck needs lightwave/c4d/max?

I agree that 3D is something of a hybrid art: not film exactly, not photography or fine art exactly either. But like the internet, nobody knows what the hell it is yet either. I was at a conference at South by Southwest film festival this year about this very topic. Believe me, content creation and what the new web/movie/tv content will look like is getting VERY heated debate within the film and multimedia industries right now. And everyone is hovering around 3D because it's so unique looking. I think Poser will evolve like anything else or go away. After all, we don't use brownie cameras anymore. I'm not sure I want raytracing and paint in Poser. The architecture of the app is too weak to support high end features, and I'd rather do all that in Cinema 4D. Check out Truespace 5 if you want to see what the next few incarnations of Poser might look like. It's got lots of features including radiosity, but in order to keep the price reasonable, the renderer is weak and it's not terribly stable. To improve on those things would jack the price up to...well...cinema 4D/Lightwave level.

You're right on Huolong. The more things change... Ardvarc37's beautiful image look pretty realistic to me. And I agree with Thip and the others that the gallery has some amazing stuff. If you want more realism than that, do photography, not 3D.

imho, POSER is a great tool, but only one of many that you should use as a 3d artist. If you'll notice in the caption of the image you posted a link to, several programs combined to create that remarkable work. I think Poser is vastly underrated. there is now an app called ReflexDRAMA that does essentially what poser does: create stock figures, models, animates and renders them. It costs 17,000. That's right. That's a 17 with three zeros after it. Admittedly it is much higher end with what it has under the hood, but it does the same thing as Poser. Because poser works so well with so many pro apps now, my poser 5 wishlist has shrunk. Here's an animation I did with Poser and Cinema 4D. 4 meg download, requires windows media player v.7. With Pro Pack, artists are just now beginning to realize what Poser can do.Thread: I know this isn't the animation forum, but... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
