There are some vendors here who sell something like what lesbentley described. You might find them useful. Search under "Crowd" and you'll get some hits in the marketplace like this

Quote - There's also a freebie forum. I stumble in a bout twice a year;if I can get textures and sharp edges in Poser figured out, I'll deluge the freebie forum with off-the-wall stuff...
...
As for criticism, maybe what we need is constructive criticism; not so much what someone is doing wrong, but how they can make it better.
I did post a freebie request either here or at DAZ (or both) for a hair brush about 18 to 24 months ago. Seemed like a pretty simple thing for V4 that a lot of people would like. Never got a single reply offering to help. Maybe it's better today then back then. I found a really bad one somewhere (had about 20 teeth in it) and modified it to work for me (which I guess was a good learning experience). Still, it turned me off the "Single voice crying in the wilderness" approach. There are some hair brushes available today by the way, but if they stemmed from my request, the turn around is about 16 months.
I agree with you on the constructive route to prodding vendors forward.
I did post a request down in the Wishing Well forum today as I said I would. Maybe dphoadley should post his request there too....

Quote - Let me just say for the record there are vendors who do read the wishing well forum and have responded but they are only a few and can't fill the whims of the entire 3D community.
Well, I'm all for trying the "system" out, so I shall post a request down there.....
Thanks

Quote - We have a forum the marketplace wishing well. ....
...no one is asking for a reduction of anything actually people are asking for more not just the same mesh ...
...I know I am only one person with one wallet so big deal if I stop buying. ..
I went and looked in it. Sadly only about 5 to 6 wishes posted there, and the last one was back in May. I don't think the wishes of one person matter that much, as you allude to yourself. However, if one could show that 200 people wanted the item, that might be different. I also think your point of not rebuking those that offer the same thing over and over again, but rewarding those who offer something new and desired is more inline with traditional market theory.
I saw yesterday where CP said it was going to send out a survey to its customers asking for inputs for its store. I think Renderosity might do the same here and ask about desired new content. This seems so straightforward to me, just a part of market research, I can't imagine why vendors don't just ask what people want. Maybe it's because the nature of the vendors here are that they are individual artists first and salesmen second. They tend to make what they want and mistakenly believe others will want it too (the "my long straight hair will be better than those other long straight hairs" kind of attitude). That would explain a lot of the redundancy.
Thanks

I support some of what is said here. I use V4 almost exclusively and I DO BUY A LOT of items from here and DAZ. What I identify with the most in the above statements is the inability to get our desires for new products voiced in a manner that helps vendors choose their next product. I think there have been forum topics before called "Desired items" or such, but they usually fill up so fast they become useless with hundred and hundreds of individual requests. A vendor would have to be a patient person to wade through all of that. If there was a means by which similar requests were grouped and tabulated, that might help vendors. I believe some vendors (I'm thinking it was Aery Soul) previously asked for suggestions for future products. Maybe someone should take a poll of what is needed and desired (I.e. "Of 200 responses, 98 people said long wavy hair was their most desired product, followed by 55 that wanted more face morphs for V4, followed by ...etc...etc".) I think that's pretty basic market research and maybe even something Renderosity should do for its vendors.
Thanks
Thread: V4 Front Bodysuit Seam Problem | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - > Quote - There is a second bodysuit from DAZ which does contain the zipper morph. IIRC, the product's merchant is billy-t.
Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be at Daz right now. I found a number of his items, but not much for V4.
Thanks anyway,
Guy
It's actually here at Renderosity:

I believe other vendors make bodysuits with zippers too.
Good luck
Thread: Best use of a SSD for Poser? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I appreciate the advice, and I'm sure you're right. I using XP right now though, so I don't think I can get any real gain with a RAM increase until I switch to a 64 bit operating system. I don't know when that will be, but probably my next PC.
Thanks
Thread: Vicky's hip gone | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I can share my experiences on this. I find that when I load the file, if the hip on V4 is gone, it's best to just reload or REVERT immediately. I have not found the need to toggle the genitals On/Off switch, and usually the reload of the scene fixes it. However, if you don't check for V4 missing hip and then do some work and SAVE the scene, you've probably messed V4 up. You can reload and reload the scene ater that, and it won't matter. The only fix then is to do what AnAardvark says above.
Be aware that sometimes after the fix AnAardvark mentions is used, the hip comes in distorted. I find the Waist Width morph can be manipulated to "almost" fix this.
I've had this problem probably 100 times in the last year, and wish it could be fixed, but Daz calls it a Poser problem and Smith Micro calls it a third party figure issue.
Good luck

Michael,
I would certainly be interested in seeing what gains you get if you used the SSD for the temp file location. I use XP with only 2Gb of RAM, and most of my scenes are not that large or intense, but I hear my HD clattering all throughout my renders. If there is a gain there, let me know.
Thanks

Thread: Trick to add extra strands to hair for realism. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - nice idea, although i thought instead of increasing the size of the loose hair obj you were going to add a displacement map so that the hair wouldnt follow the curves of the underlying hair and could stick out more naturally... perhaps thats an idea???
I shall be exploring this nice idea to add to my hair shader that i have yet to release as my shader uses only the hair hair transparency and not a texture map, thus allowing for light to follow individual strands when the light is moved......but your idea will add a little more to the realism.....hmmmm (will appear in free stuff, i have no interest in selling)
I Iike that idea. I would like to see some variation in the height of the hair strands too. I'll experiment some....Thanks

Again I'm just trying to share an idea here with the community that has given me so much. Hopefully someone can take the idea and improve upon it. If you do perhaps you can share it.
I have to go to work now, so I'll run a another render with the ray tracing for the hair on and see what I get from it.
Thanks

For those of you interested., here's how I did it. Basically, you follow these steps:
Generate a obj copy of the hair. You do this by going under FILE> EXPORT>OBJ. Select only the hair. Deselect all options for export. Call it My_Hair or something and note what directory you put it into.
Load the obj hair back in. This is under FILE> IMPORT>OBJ. Deselect all options. The hair should come back in exactly on top of the hair you had before. Some of the textures may come back, but in P7, I noticed the transmaps did not come in. That's okay. If the hair originally was a prop, you may be able to just duplicate what's on the figure rather than doing this and step 1.
Copy over the existing shader network under the material for the original hair to the new obj form. Go to the MATERIAL room and selected everything for the chosen hair portion. Go to your new hair and for the same group paste it in place. The idea here is to have essentially two copies of the hair in place on the head when you're finished with the same shaders for each.
Add in a new visibility shader as shown in my next post for the new hair. This runs streaks thru the existing visibility transmap (black lines) so that only a few fine hair strands are visible. The All Back hair has the hair strands running essentially vertical, so the mapping was done to insert vertical gaps in the hair transmap. With other hair styles, this may not work, but most I've seen are vertical.I used the tile shader, but there may be something better.
Scale the new hair slightly larger than the old hair. To see the new strands you need to raise the new hair up. I scaled the hair in size a few percent and then a few more in Y Scale. I think you could just move it up also.
It may help to tint the hair a red or green during the first few renders to see the size and aid in more strands or more spread between. them. I'm sure some people here will figure out improvements to this. Please post those.
Good luck
